I am so glad that you guys are with us this evening. Thank you. We're an hour late because I had to go to D.C. to talk about politics with my former colleague, Dana Bash. I hope you guys tune in. We'll play a little bit of it later. But let's get to what is going on now because I think it's really, really important to discuss what the vice president is doing and her mission to become president of the United States. If I can get my there we go to become president of the United States. So, you know, faced with troubling polling that's suggesting that there's a draw and right and some of the softest support for Democratic nominee among black men. The vice president is rolling out new efforts to shore up support with a key voting bloc.
So let's call it what I call it. I call it Black Folks Week. And I can do that because I'm part of a black, I'm a black man. So we're going to talk about the specifics of what she's doing, how much money, what's the initiative and her agenda for not only black America, but specifically for black men. That's what she's doing now. I'm so happy to have right now with me Some great folks to discuss. First of all, Garrison Hayes is here as a video correspondent for Mother Jones, specializing in race, history, and politics. Thank you for joining us once again, sir. Always great to be here. Thanks. Also, Rashad Robinson is a civil rights leader and the president of Color of Change. Rashad, we're so glad that you're here as well.

Why is Vice President Harris launching a targeted outreach to Black men now?
So let me just say, you know, all Black men, gosh, we have been talking about this forever, especially you and I, Rashad. I mean, ever since what... I mean, we've been discussing it together in person since Essence, right? That was over the summer. What was that, June, July, June, maybe?
July, July. July.
Not long before she became the nominee, right? And then, you know, on to the convention we saw each other. I saw you, Garrison, as well. We've talked about it here. Okay, so let me just play a soundbite. From the town hall that just happened, it's over now, with Charlemagne that aired on all the iHeart, many of the iHeart radio stations. And Charlemagne Tha God sat down with the vice president and also took questions from a larger audience. Here it is.
Now, you know, one thing they've been saying, a lot of your press hits get criticized. You know, folks say you come off as very scripted. They say you like to stick to your talking points. And some media says you have.
That would be called discipline.
Oh, okay.
So I just wanted to play that because I mean, honestly, I thought she killed it. I don't know about you, Rashad. What did you think?
I thought it was nice to see her in this format. I thought she was clear. I thought she was relatable. But most importantly, I thought she was substantive. But that she was able to really dig in to the range of projects and programs that she's promoted as vice president, even before vice president, and able to answer sort of a lot of the questions. But that's what we've been seeing as she's been sort of more free to talk on platforms that actually reach everyday Americans who might be at this point still deciding how they're going to engage in this election, moving beyond the kind of chattering political class. And so much of what actually has to happen in this election cycle is that intersection between the culture, between how people actually live
And the issues that we are facing and the vice president going to places and spaces where people actually are is both smart and it actually gives us an opportunity to see her in a way that I think is going to be important for Americans who are making a decision.
Garrison, your thoughts.
Yeah, I think that what a lot of people were feeling was that, you know, she's repeating herself. She's saying the same things over and over. And I love that she points out that that's discipline. I think you actually need a great deal of discipline when you're talking to mass groups of people. But where I think the vice president shines at what we've seen over the last few weeks, as Rashad points out, she really shines when she turns those broad brush kind of policy and proposals and ideas around.
