Welcome back to the Fry Deck Golf Podcast. I am your host, Andy Johnson. Uh, today I am joined by Colt Nost. I was really excited for this conversation. I have yet to have Colt Nost on this podcast. He's obviously one of the biggest voices in golf, uh, with his work on CBS, uh, calling live golf. He's also uh has a serious XM show as well as his subpar. Podcast uh with Drew Stoltz. So it was uh it was super fun to have Colt on, talk about his kind of career. Uh, but really what spurred this whole conversation was uh Colt's you know kind of uh attempt to get reinstated as a mid-am golfer. So regain his amateur status so he could play in mid-am events. Uh he posted a reply from From the USGA saying they were going to reevaluate their process for reinstated professionals.
Uh, and that spurred this uh kind of conversation coming to fruition. So we talked with Colt about uh the PGA tour, his career, uh, as well as the um kind of controversy around reinstated uh pros as amateurs. So reinstated AMS, uh what that means is uh professionals that seek to rejoin the amateur game. Obviously this is a hot topic in all of sports with what's going on in college athletics where you have some players that are coming back from the G League to play in the NCAAs, uh in college basketball. You have players that are on training camp rosters attempting to come back to college football. So this is a big topic in all of sports. It's a Huge topic in golf. Uh and I think a lightning rod was M Mike Sposa, uh a reinstated amateur who played on the PGA tour, Corn Ferry Tour, which was then you know when he played at the nationwide, recently winning the US senior am.
So uh this was a fun conversation with Colt. He's a great guy. Uh very okay to sit on different sides of this debate. And I think it's super nuanced. It's um, you know, I think there's a lot of ways to think about this. Some people believe, hey, you know, do the time, do a couple uh you know, based off of how much professional golf you played, you you owe X amount of years and and then you can be reinstated. Some people believe there should be a threshold for the level that you reach. Once you reach a certain level, you can never be an amateur again. And then there's some people that believe once you term pro. Once you decide you're a professional, that's it. You should never play amateur golf again. Um so there's a wide range of of of thoughts around this and and Colt and I explore uh kind of the topic as well as many others.
