What is the opening premise of the Burned By a Paper Sun episode?
Greetings, ladies and gentlemen from hell. We here at Meltopia Studios just wanted to let you know that we won't be leaving you empty-handed while we put the finishing touches on part two of season two. In the meantime, we'll be continuing with our regular release schedule, so you can look forward to all sorts of dark treats along the way, including a special creator chat where we'll answer everyone's burning questions about what really goes on down in the burning place. So, with that out of the way, we look forward to seeing you again very soon. In hell.
One might assume I would have stopped going to the meetings after my harrowing experience. But I didn't. I continued to attend group, sit with an ever dwindling circle of darkness survivors, watch them disappear one by one. Surely the rest of them suspected there was something wrong with Joe. But for some reason They kept coming too. With each new session. Joe became more talkative. Charismatic even. while the rest of us continued to shrivel in our uncomfortable metal fold out chairs.
Here you go. Somewhere along the way, I bought a gun. A little back alley transaction courtesy of one of my sketchier friends. Whatever was happening, whatever Joe was doing to us, had to be stopped. There was no doubt in my mind that he had done something terrible to the others. Though what I had no idea. It was somewhere between Mandy's disappearance and Walt's that I started to see something strange. It started out innocuous enough, a slight movement off the table, a barely noticeable disturbance. I'm not sure exactly how long it was before I saw the thing. with its somber costume and assemblage of grey balloons. Sometimes I'd see one of the things dancing down the throat of an alley. Bouncing up and down with the joviality of an excited child.
Other times, I would see the squat thing itself hiding in the corner of my eye, sourly gripping its murder of inflatables. In the glimpses I was afforded, it seemed to be a clown. All made up in black and gray paint. Its outfit a similarly drab ensemble. comprised of a frilly shirt, a charcoal neck ruffle, and a much too large pair of pants, sagging off its waist. It waved at me once, an ashen gloved hand slowly opening and closing, a dour expression adorning its jowly face. Sometimes I'd see it at the end of a vacant road. Other times it'd be loitering across the street. Just outside the amber vision of a standing street lamp. I wasn't sure how the pudgy thing was related to Joe, but I knew it was. It had to be.
I stepped through the doors of what I knew would be my last visit to the warehouse turned sanctum for darkness survivors. As I walked up the stairs, I thought about what Joe would say to me. After all, everyone was gone now. All that was left was me. I wondered if he would be like the proverbial movie villain and reveal his plan. Give me a chance to foil his evil machinations. I felt the back of my jeans, where my Glock was firmly stuffed in my waistband. I was only half sure I would kill him. The other half guessed the bullets would bounce right off him. The futility of my plan dawning to the tune of bullet casings hitting the floor, and a pair of footsteps rapidly coming toward me. He wasn't a victim of the darkness.
He was a holdover from it. When I finally reached the top of the stairs, I turned into the room I had entered so many times before to shrug a darkness-sized boulder from my shoulders. Now that same darkness awaited me, sitting in a lone folding chair, staring at me.
Joe was in his old regalia, a bleak but dressy ensemble of muted colors, and wore a faint smile to contrast it. Instinctively, I hesitated to move further into the room. A deer backing away from the den of a wolf. He gestured to the single seat opposite him, inviting me to sit. I grit my teeth and remembered the gun in the back of my pants. Then walked over and sat down.
The air seemed stale. Like the breath of the building hadn't vented, hadn't taken in any fresh air in decades. At first, Joe and I simply stared at one another, sizing each other up.
