You know, a lot of people be telling me shit but to hear from another Great, like you someone one of the greatest fighters, period. Two-time belt holder. I mean means a lot, brother.
I appreciate that. Hey, so obviously your story has been one that so many people are familiar with. And I spoke to you a little bit about fighting in the streets and all that. How did you end up doing those street fights with the legend that was Kimbo slice and all those guys? I remember watching that. I thought to myself, Miami is a wild place, right? Because people from the outside, we see Miami and we remember we think of Scarface and all kinds of shit like that. But watching y'all fight in backyards, to me was so wild. How did you get involved in that?
Well, particularly with Kimbo, it just so happened we we didn't grow up far from each other. We had some friends in common and we ended up at the same gym, um, Freestyle Fighting Academy. And we we started training. Uh he was maybe I think already had maybe like ten, eleven Um amateur fights, something like that. Um, I already had done grappling competitions. I was already like working my way in MMA towards towards doing that full time. And I uh Kimball came to the gym One of the gym owners asked him, goes, Man, I got a really talented dude. I want you to watch him spar and see if you'll you'll put him on. And at the time, DC, I don't know if you remember, but if like Michael Jackson dropped a video, he got like a million views.
Yep. When the Kim when the Kimball video came out, It was like ten million views in a week. It w it wa there was nut he was the original and the first YouTube star. Yeah. That I knew and and you know, maybe I don't know how how old uh exactly I was when I seen the first Kimballs. Um but I was young, you know? I was crazy young and It was like, damn, this motherfucker is considering having me on this platform, you know. You
know what's crazy? I remember being In my wrestling days, when that Kimbo video came out, and someone called me everybody
singing.
Would you fight Kimbo for ten thousand dollars? I was like, No, there's no way I'm fighting this dude because he was so scary. But You start
out. The most humble dude, the most humble dude at the same time. Bro, I heard that he was the sweetest heart. He just looked like he was a problem. But the sweetest of hearts and a genuine, like real person, you know? Unbelievable. Real real life gorilla, but the sweetest dude in the planet and the most humble.
