27 Mar 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

3.338 - 35.387 J.P. Shadrick

It is Thursday, March 26th. This is Jaguars Happy Hour. And now, the fourth K-pop demon hunter, J.P. Shatrick. I have no idea what that means, but welcome in. It is Jaguars Happy Hour. It is an hour. It is on radio. It is on Jaguars YouTube. It is on Jaguars.com. Here is what will be contained in the show today. Here's what's coming up, of course. The latest Jaguars news. That won't take long.

0

35.975 - 55.694 J.P. Shadrick

There's not much going on. We'll also get into the Jaguars' new office building open this week. We'll take a look at that real quick. Proposed rule changes are out. The NFL annual meeting is next week. And we'll give a thumbs up, thumbs down from Jeff Loggaman on some of these proposed changes. We'll go around the National Football League as well.

0

56.034 - 70.509 J.P. Shadrick

Some other teams are a little busier, at least in the headlines, than the Jaguars these days. We're on 1010XLAM. Glad you're with us. J.P. Shadrick with... Jeff Lagerman, good afternoon. Good afternoon. It's kind of quiet across the league right now.

0

Chapter 2: What is the latest news about the Jaguars?

72.571 - 94.443 J.P. Shadrick

If something's happening right now, it's one of those third or fourth or fifth level kind of transaction on the roster that it's getting publicized, and the only reason it's getting publicized is because there's nothing else happening. Yeah, like the Jaguars thing last week, Jake Bobo, they gave an offer sheet and the Seahawks matched it. That's the story, right?

0

94.603 - 116.966 J.P. Shadrick

And I was reading, you know, Pro Football Talk is one of my favorite sites to read, you know, because it's like a gathering point of information and they were talking about how The whole critique of the college quarterbacks now is big news now. Now the focus is starting to move towards the draft, and that's really where it's at now.

0

117.026 - 136.937 J.P. Shadrick

So when you have somebody make any kind of comments about Fernandez being maybe not the first pick overall, it creates a firestorm of debate. I mean, that's where we're at right now. Kind of crazy. It is. But... It is what it is, but I like the fact that the league meetings are coming up. What did you just call him? Fernandez?

0

Chapter 3: What proposed rule changes are being discussed for the NFL?

138.082 - 159.663 J.P. Shadrick

What did I say? You said Fernandez. I'm like, who the hell is Fernandez? Fernando Mendoza. Fernando Mendoza. Thank you. I was not going to let that slide. I did a morph of the first and last name there. You did. I'm like, who's that? Thank you for the help on that one. Anyway. That was a good one. Yeah. That was a good one. He's clear cut the first pick. Oh, they're going to take him.

0

160.064 - 182.914 J.P. Shadrick

Now the argument is, is he the best quarterback? I don't know. There's not many out there. Ty Simpson said he's definitely a first-round pick after his pro day. Yeah, well, I mean, one of the top 32. I mean, and one of the top quarterbacks. I mean, it's premium position, and that's news, right? I guess. I don't think there's any doubt, though, who the number one pick is going to be.

0

183.054 - 203.76 J.P. Shadrick

I mean, just look at the body of work. Look at the leadership. Look at the performance in the big games. Look at the accuracy. Yeah. I mean, he's got everything you could possibly want, I think. He's a true pocket passer. There will be, I think, a little bit of a learning curve, as there always is for first overall picks, especially because of the quality of the roster that the Raiders have.

0

203.78 - 219.359 J.P. Shadrick

I mean, that's a big question mark. Unfortunately, a lot of first overall picks, Trevor Lawrence walks into a situation that's not exactly optimum. There's a reason the team has the first round pick. Exactly. Because they stink usually. Well, the Raiders really stink.

0

219.379 - 241.752 J.P. Shadrick

I mean, the Jaguars stunk back when Trevor Lawrence was the first overall pick, and they really stunk then, and the Raiders really stink now. They had lost 15 straight at that point when they had the Trevor Lawrence. And then they made it, what, a 20 in a row? Well, and I think it's going to be interesting, too, at some point, because the Raiders tanked. to get the first overall pick.

241.793 - 266.602 J.P. Shadrick

And now there's this big debate going on with the NBA about how do you stop teams from tanking. So will that debate maybe flow into the NFL's draft? I mean, I don't know. Will it? Because, I mean, the reality is that the Raiders tanked. They shut down Max Crosby at the end of the year. Why did they shut him down?

266.682 - 286.73 J.P. Shadrick

Well, I mean, they shut him down to protect himself a little bit based upon the failed physical with the trade to Baltimore. But, I mean, he also claimed he wasn't hurt. He was hurt. Yeah, he was hurt. But he claimed he wasn't. He was unhappy with not playing. He was very unhappy with not playing. But I believe that the Raiders were trying to protect him from himself.

287.511 - 299.588 J.P. Shadrick

But at the same token, guys have played. Put it this way. The Raiders were in contention for a playoff spot. Do you think they would have shut them down? I don't think so. I don't know. No chance. No chance. So I don't know.

299.608 - 321.983 J.P. Shadrick

I think it's going to be interesting to see, you know, could that possibility happen with the NFL to where you get, you know, it's a lottery type system and you don't know who's going to have the first overall pick so you get teams not tanking. I hate that lottery. Why? Come on, man. Just do it like they do now and just penalize teams if there's actual evidence of tanking. JP, everybody tanks.

Chapter 4: How might tanking for draft capital affect the NFL?

681.495 - 705.865 J.P. Shadrick

But it's a beautiful building. And what's really cool, too, is when if people ever have a chance to ride up and down the river via a boat, the backside of the building, how it's almost like layered, stepped with the balconies all looking across the river. It's beautiful. Yeah, it's awesome. Beautiful. Beautiful. How's the fishing in that part of the river, by the way?

0

706.047 - 714.839 J.P. Shadrick

It's actually, I got about, probably about, well, actually about eight spots within view if you were sitting over there.

0

Chapter 5: What are the ethical implications of tanking in sports?

714.859 - 715.239 J.P. Shadrick

Oh, really?

0

715.259 - 716.521 Jeff Lageman

Yeah, I got some real good spots.

0

716.541 - 718.063 J.P. Shadrick

I don't need you to share them on the radio.

0

718.143 - 718.343 Jeff Lageman

No.

0

718.463 - 726.434 J.P. Shadrick

No, of course not. No, can't share them. One of them really good, like right across. Huh. Right across the river. Right by BK kind of-ish?

726.454 - 732.257 Jeff Lageman

Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Okay. Maybe a little bit to the east. Okay. All right. Good to know.

732.838 - 758.522 J.P. Shadrick

Just asking for a friend. That's it. There's a certain octagon-shaped dock. You might want to try that one. Huh. Imagine that. All right. There's only one in that section of the river, so it won't be hard to find. There you go. Good luck figuring the tide out. It's tough with the tide moving, huh? You've got to hit it at the right time. That's all. Enough said.

758.562 - 782.569 J.P. Shadrick

Maybe we can hear more on Saturday on the Outdoor Show. Maybe. Maybe not. Probably not. Knowing you. We're back in a moment. This is the annual. When we come back, Jeff, this is one of your favorite segments all year long. Proposed rule changes by the NFL. Yeah. We'll get thumbs up, thumbs down, and maybe some more commentary. How many proposed rule changes do we have? Five. Five.

783.19 - 812.329 J.P. Shadrick

We're going to go through all of them. Okay. When we come back. I'm prepared. I can't wait to hear this. Plenty ahead. 1010XLAM. Jaguars.com. Jaguars YouTube. It's Jaguars Happy Hour. Welcome back. Jaguars happy hour continues on this Thursday, March 26th. Almost April. J.P. Shadrick. Jeff Loggaman. Glad you're with us. 1010XLAM. Jaguars.com. Jaguars YouTube.

Chapter 6: What are the details of the Jaguars' new office building?

1342.434 - 1355.226 J.P. Shadrick

So that's why you saw a few instances last year of teams intentionally kicking it out of bounds on the kickoff. I saw it on the Thanksgiving game, Chiefs-Cowboys. That happened at one point. When it first happened, I was like, what in the world is going on?

0

1355.246 - 1357.649 Jeff Lageman

What is he doing? Why are you kicking it out of bounds? What a horrible kick.

0

1357.669 - 1375.312 J.P. Shadrick

It goes out to the 40. No, they did it on purpose. And so there's some of that. There's a proposal to eliminate that. Yeah, I'm a little in the gray area, JP, and usually I'm not very in the gray area when it comes to things. But I want to learn more about what they want to replace it with.

0

1375.472 - 1397.596 J.P. Shadrick

I would say, I'm guessing here, you'd replace it with, if it's out of bounds, you get it at X yard line no matter what. Instead of so many yards from the kicking spot, which is in the rule book now. I think just the wording would probably have to change. Like you get it at the 40 no matter what. I don't think, no. No, because then you're kind of eliminating the penalty.

0

1398.057 - 1418.338 J.P. Shadrick

The whole purpose of the penalty was to penalize the receiving team. No, no, the penalty is to penalize the kicking team for kicking it out of bounds. Correct. So give the receiving team the ball at the 40. That eliminates if you kick it out of bounds. Under the current rules, though, they get it where? Like the 20. Right. Which helps the kicking team. But here's my question.

1418.498 - 1432.238 J.P. Shadrick

It penalizes the team that shouldn't be penalized. Let's go back to the original penalty, which the penalty was allowing the kickoff team to kick from the 50, which they subsequently would kick it out of bounds, and the receiving team would get it at the 20. I think the 25. I think it's 25 yards away.

1432.278 - 1432.659 Jeff Lageman

Right.

1433.18 - 1449.478 J.P. Shadrick

So, I mean, the original penalty was designed to penalize the receiving team. So if they can just kick it out of bounds and they take over at the 25, they got penalized for the previous penalty. I'm okay with that. You see what I'm saying?

1449.498 - 1450.079 Jeff Lageman

Yeah, interesting.

Chapter 7: How do proposed rule changes impact gameplay?

2225.586 - 2249.202 J.P. Shadrick

Thank you. You know what? I did. Candor was right. Look at that. I went to the Harvard of the South, Logs. NFL this week announcing that the 2026 kickoff game presented by YouTube TV scheduled for Wednesday, September 9th, 8.20 p.m. on NBC and Peacock with the Super Bowl 60 champion Seattle Seahawks. It will be in Seattle, the opponent to be determined. And then the next day.

0

2249.317 - 2274.775 J.P. Shadrick

Thursday, September 10th in the U.S. This game will be in Melbourne, Australia. The 49ers and the Rams, 8.35 p.m. Eastern at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. That means that game will kick off at 11.35 a.m. Australian time on the next day, Friday. 15 hours ahead. Isn't that crazy? How about that? I think that's cool, man. Having a game in Australia.

0

2276.755 - 2293.245 J.P. Shadrick

Now nine international games on the schedule this year, four continents, seven countries, eight stadiums. How many clips of Crocodile Dundee might we see leading up to and during that game? Call that a knife? This is a knife.

0

2293.225 - 2310.965 J.P. Shadrick

Raiders minority owner Tom Brady told Alex Sherman of CNBC that when he looked into the rules, it was made clear by the league that he cannot be an owner and a player at the same time. Quote, we explored a lot of different things and I'm very happily retired. End quote. He'd have to sell a stake in the team to become a player. He's not doing that.

2310.985 - 2340.85 J.P. Shadrick

He's not selling a stake because he got a sweetheart deal. He was doing some flag football stuff this week. That's why this came out there. Did you see the ratings? No. I think they were like only... 600,000 people that watched that flag football broadcast. I mean, you compare that to any other broadcast football. It's peanuts. And, of course, also the NFL players got a quick –

2340.83 - 2367.497 J.P. Shadrick

dose of reality when you've got these guys that do flag football on a regular basis and play and train and live in that world. NFL players, it's a different game. A totally different game. So it's going to be interesting to see If they are going to try to assimilate NFL players into this flag football, and the NFL would love to have NFL players because, I mean, it's great publicity.

2367.657 - 2389.519 J.P. Shadrick

If you're trying to sell your game as the greatest football in the world, why would you not want to have your football players in the flag football Olympics, et cetera, playing? Yeah, 2028 LA Olympics. Flag football. I think it's going to be a really interesting watch for two reasons. One, Can the NFL players play?

2389.78 - 2411.391 J.P. Shadrick

Now, I think they're like cornerbacks, wide receivers, nickelbacks, the slot receivers, the guy that have a lot of quick change of direction. I think those guys are going to be perfect fit. But I think a lot of the other guys are going to be like linebackers, tight ends. I think it's going to be a little bit difficult for them. It's got to be fast-moving guys.
