Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
I can do that.
Oh, I'm supposed to push OK. Was I the last person to push OK?
No, I didn't know.
You're all good. You're all good.
Are you recording, Sarah? It hasn't come up for a request. Maybe you get it automatically. Oh, yeah, here you are. You are approved. And I am disappearing. And over to you. No relations.
A great Jacksonville Jaguars season is over. This is Teal Talk in partnership with Gallagher. I'm Jay Lawrence, no relation. He's Kiram Surin. Jason Bell here as well to look back at the narrowest of wildcard defeats to the Buffalo Bills. and an AFC South winning season. So on the podcast today, we're going to drop in on the London Watch Party.
It was an amazing night, despite the result, to hear from some fans, with myself, with Rhys Parkinson as well, and from a couple of British fans who made the trip over to Duval County for the game as well. Lots to do in what is our last Teal Talk of the season. We're back in the off-season with all the Jags summertime activity, but first... Opening statements. Key, Jason, how much does it hurt?
Go on, Jason.
I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted. I had a lot of emotions tied up in that game. And I tried to stay a neutral fan, especially when doing live broadcast. But I couldn't.

Chapter 2: What were the highlights of the Jaguars season?
I wore a green blazer. I had green Nikes on. I was invested. I was totally invested. And I saw the opportunity, it was there. I mean, it was there to be had. And I also saw the game plan, and I also saw exactly what I feared most, which was fourth quarter Josh Allen. That being said, what a year.
You have to applaud this team for what they've done, who they've become, and I'm very optimistic for the future. But as a fan, I would lie to say I was not just mentally and emotionally exhausted.
I think that's a really good way of putting it. Emotionally exhausted, Key.
Yeah, a couple of days removed now with some clarity. This is so dramatic. With some clarity and being able to reflect on it. I actually am framing this whole season very, very, very positively. Sunday night hurt, obviously. Really hurt. Because I think we had the talent to go...
go all the way i think we had the talent to go all the way and to not do that is is obviously gutting however two days later you're able to go do you know what look at what we did this season from where we came from last season look at what we did that can only be let's look to next season that can only be onwards and upwards man because what what a season we had that can only be moving forwards it can only be better
Yeah, and I also think that the enthusiasm and the atmosphere of Jags fans is just... It is completely different, as you say, as it was to... Not even last year, but even a few months ago, when it's almost like...

Chapter 3: How did the Jags perform in the wildcard game against the Bills?
this doesn't have to be a one season good season or even like, you know, a great second half of the season. That's not it. No, no. Jang's going to run it back. Jang's going to run it back. And J-Bell, you know, Trevor Lawrence, you can't underestimate the step up that he has had this season with Liam Cohen either.
Yeah.
Well, that relationship has definitely borne some fruit. You can see it. They're confident within each other, and that's the main thing. You want your play caller and your quarterback to see the game the same way, and you saw that happen. It accelerated quite fast. So going into next year...
Trevor's going to have complete command of this offense and faith and trust in what Liam Cohen's vision is for him and the next year. So, yeah, you wanted to see this relationship turn out the way it has and Trevor Lawrence plays well. That was a question mark on the season. What does the quarterback look like? Is he the guy we thought he should be? And that has turned out to be true.
Key, you're so right. If they win this game, their path to the Super Bowl looks crispy, man.
I saw on your predictions, J-Bell, that you had the Jags in the Super Bowl, didn't you?
Yeah, but this was a hard game. This was a hard game. I was very uncomfortable about this, but I knew, hey, if we pull this off, the path is pretty smooth. I didn't like the matchup versus the Texans.

Chapter 4: What emotions did the hosts experience after the playoff loss?
I was a little scared of that, too, but this was the game.
Well, let's get into the game a little bit more in a moment. But first, let's do, for the last time this season, Jason's five points. Okay, okay. The Jags suffering a heartbreaking wildcard defeat to Buffalo. Where was the game lost?
Oh, my gosh. You know what? The game was lost when they found their victim. And I'm not going to say his name, but as a defensive back, I look at the guy I call the pigeon, the guy they're attacking, and they attacked the same guy twice, two big plays. Number six, man, that hurt me. So, you know, he got beat on two plays. I always protect the guilty.
I don't say the names, but they attacked one corner. And he gave up two big plays. And that's where it was lost. The big chunk play, just jumping the route. And also the other touchdown on the right-hand side on the wheel route. Man, just that's where it got us. And that's the playoffs. It's fine margins. They attack individuals.
Like every time I'm looking at a game, I'm going, okay, who's the guy? Where's the matchup? And I saw the matchup, which was in zone coverage, versus a player that didn't react well in zone coverage, known to be a man-to-man corner. And they attacked him, man. As a defensive back, that's where I saw the game was lost.
Which Jaguar leaves with head held highest?
You know, Parker Washington's the man. Parker Washington... He really changed this team. It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out next year with Travis Hunter back. Man, Parker, you just feed him the rock, man. He makes it happen. Two phases of the game, man.
This guy's ā I mean, when you can do what he does on special teams and as a slot receiver, he became the number one target. Let's be honest.
Who else stepped up for the team?

Chapter 5: What positives can be drawn from the Jaguars' season?
It was that chunk play, man, for me, you know. Big play down the field, Brandon Cooks. That was it, man. We had it right then and there. That was the moment, man. And as a defensive back, man, that's how it is. It's always that one play, just like an offensive tackle, giving up a big sack or quarterback throwing interception. That was the play to me. And what next for Jacksonville?
I mean, let's just chill out. Just relax. You know, the season's hard, man. The season's hard. It's long. You know, you should be proud of yourself. The franchise, the fan base, you motivated everybody. Everybody was invested. That's what you want to do, man. That's what it's about. This game is about entertainment. You got to entertain the fans. They sacrificed so much to support.
And they put a good product on the field. They showed passion. They showed desire. I mean, even the way they opened themselves up is... Who they were off the field, the interviews, the interactions with all the fan bases. That's what it's about. Be proud of that. Go off into the offseason, figure out the things you need to do to turn the corner.
But yeah, just give yourself some time because this was emotional.
Jason, can I ask you a league wide question? which comes out of Sunday's game and a decision on fourth and one, which was, as we all saw, actually fourth and two, to go for it, right, when you're in field goal territory. And it's happening more and more where teams are going for it instead of taking the three points. Why do you think that is?
So we can get to a philosophical debate about this. But when you talk about that situation, your quarterback just should have ran over somebody. Trevor shouldn't have slid.
Sure. Yes. Okay. The actual technicalities of should he have made those yards? Yeah, absolutely. But why aren't we kicking for the three points there? And it's happening across the league where more and more teams are going for it on fourth down.
You know, this is a scoring league. Who are you playing against? You're playing against. I can only say the matchup right in the matchup because this is why they make their decisions. They're not making the decisions out of the air. They're not saying this is what the league is doing. So we're going to do what they're saying. All right in this This game, this is how they play.
So this is how we need to play and adjust and do certain things. If your defense is just manhandling somebody, why would you do that? You would punt, back them up, let it happen if they can't score on offense, right? But if they have an explosive offense, especially in the fourth quarter, you're thinking, you got to make it happen. You can't sit back. So that's why those decisions are made.

Chapter 6: Who stood out as key players for the Jaguars this season?
And you know what? Actually, some of those questions quite hard. So congratulations to Charlotte and therefore one assigned. And I was a little bit jealous. I was definitely a bit jealous. Signed Trevor Lawrence, Jersey. I want that. That's what I'm saying. That's a surprise. And that is a prize.
That is a solid right there.
Now, there was a second-place team as well. Second-place team signed Foye Oluokun, Jersey. I mean, you know, it's not bad. Either way.
The captain of the defense. Exactly, that's what I'm saying. Either of those prizes, man.
Yeah, that's what I mean. I need to get up on my Jags trivia.
Yeah, yeah. So congratulations to Charlotte and congratulations to the rest of her team for winning that prize. And they are also, big thanks to Fulham, because they're also off to see a game of their choice at Craven Cottage. So you go down, you go down to the pub for a Jags watch-along and you leave with a signed Trevor Lawrence jersey and four tickets to a home Fulham game. Come on.
I worked out for you.
Now, it wasn't just British fans watching this. Now, it wasn't just the British fans in London watching this game. Also, a couple British fans who ended up going all the way to Duval County, all the way to Everbank to watch the game itself. Joel and Ben, what was it like? Amazing for Joel and Ben to go over there.
And yes, it wasn't the result that they wanted, but it sounds like they had an unbelievable few days. Imagine that, going down for a playoff game. Yes, again, it wasn't the result you wanted. But the one thing I would say, and Joel and Ben mentioned it there, but you could see it on TV, couldn't you?

Chapter 7: What was the turning point in the Jaguars' playoff game?
Jason, I'm ready. I'll watch the Super Bowl, sure, but I'm ready for week one of the regular season. I'm ready. Yeah.
As a player, I always used to hear people talk about that. And I was like, I need to rest. Let me rest.
Do you know what? One thing I'll say, right? Standout moment for me actually happened in training camp. And the reason for that is because... I was fortunate enough to sit in on a chat between James Gladstone, Tony Buscelli and Reece Parkinson. And Reece said to them, what's the goal for this season? And their answer was, the goal is to keep on getting better. And they did that.
And I think that for me is the standout moment of the whole season happened in training camp. For them to say that and do it, I think spectacular. I have such faith in this organisation as it currently stands. I think only good things ahead, man.
J-Bell, if there are any fans out there that are feeling quite rightly disappointed or sad with how the season ended, what words of encouragement would you give them?
I would say it's okay to feel like that because you were invested and that's good. That's being a good fan. The thing about the NFL is everybody's except what everybody except one team is going to go back home and think man, you know, oh, you know, it didn't work out. So because of that you got to find the positives and it's quite easy to see you got your quarterback. You got your coach.

Chapter 8: What are the expectations for the Jaguars in the upcoming season?
You got a foundation. That is what matters. There's so many teams in the NFL chasing that. Those simple things. So many question marks. Well, you've answered that. Now it's about building. The foundation dried a lot faster than we thought. So now this building is going up. Have you used that line before? No, I just came out. Well, it's good. It just, it just listened.
It was so relevant to getting a new stadium as well.
Oh, this is what I do, fellas. I don't even know where it comes from. You know, eight concussions. It don't matter. Just, just, it's rolling. So anyways, now that you threw me off my game, but now I'm back in all honesty. It's all right. Ride with it. Things are good. The future's looking right. And you should be upset for a week.
And then let's start thinking about how we're going to build up this team for next year. You only get a week. And I ain't talking about seven days. I'm giving you five. Weekend doesn't count.
We get to boo the Texans next weekend, so that counts for something.
I'm not in that. All right, we can close out the podcast in a minute. But first, I suppose we should get on over to Ian. Is Ian here? Hiya. Hello.
Oh, my goodness.
That's a room right there. Wow.
Can you switch your camera around to landscape so that we can see that? Yeah, hopefully that will work. Oh, there we go.
