Not necessarily for the right reasons. It's a campaign ad coming out of Arkansas. It's from uh Sarah Sanders, the governor there, whom I like very, very much. And I feel that she is personally being dragged a little bit unfairly for this. But the campaign ad, as such, is driving people crazy. It's an ad against people abusing the welfare system, which is all good. Republicans, centrists, independents, disillusioned. liberals should all agree with the message. The issue with the ad that is driving people crazy is that the supposed welfare abuser here is a young white man.
Yeah, oi, you want some of this? Take that. Come on. Meet Brad. Brad has turned relaxing into a full-time profession. But you, you actually work hard. You pay taxes to cover welfare for guys like Brad who just choose not to work. Whoa. That's why I launched a welfare to work requirement. Almost there. Now more Arkansans are working than ever before. Oh, even Brad.
Okay. All right. So it's the problem is the brads, according to the campaign ad. However, we all know that the problem with welfare abuse is not the brads. It's the Abdulas. If you look in places like Minnesota and Ohio, it's the Chenequas. I don't think you can get away with doing an ad about the Chiniquas. It's the but it's not generally the Brads. We have the numbers to back this up. The population of Arkansas. is sixty-eight to seventy percent white. The black population is about fifteen percent, Latino population eight or nine percent. then you have Asian, American Indian, Pacific Islander, they they make up the very small number of the rest of the people. So that's the just demographic of Arkansas. Compare that to welfare use.
Let's just look at snap benefits because that's the biggest one, other than Medicaid, but the Medicaid numbers are almost exactly the same. Uh you got 70% of the population is white, but only 57.8% of the welfare users are white. You've got fifteen percent of the population is black. Uh, a little under 21% of the welfare users are black. So black people are disproportionately like likely to use the welfare programs. You've got eight or nine percent of the population is Hispanic. Almost 11% of the welfare users are Hispanic.
