Heather Dupacy-Allen.

43.467 - 63.212 Mike Hosking

Is it just me or is there a risk that today's SpaceX IPO is just a little overhyped? People are just thirsting for these shares, aren't they? It's apparently more than four times oversubscribed. Banks have decked their headquarters with SpaceX banners and toy rockets. One asset manager has lowered its minimum account balance for small investors who want to get in from 100,000 USD to 2,000 USD.

0

63.472 - 82.336 Mike Hosking

What is it? Is this the hype that's coming from the AI fizz, or is this just the Elon Musk connection, a chance to buy a little bit of Elon Musk? Either way, I'd say it's a risky gamble, isn't it? But more so if it's just based on Elon Musk hype. This is a guy who absolutely is a genius, but he's a flawed one, and his ambitions are so audacious they often don't bear out.

0

82.396 - 85.3 Mike Hosking

Remember his prediction that he would have humans on Mars by 2025?

Chapter 3: How is the renewable energy sector performing in New Zealand?

85.781 - 104.988 Mike Hosking

How'd that go? So what do you think is going to happen with his plan to put AI data centers into space, laser linking that stuff back to us? This is also a guy who doesn't always deliver the best product. I mean, yeah, the Tesla 3 sold like hotcakes, but the Cybertruck was a bomb. And this is a company that hasn't even turned a profit yet. It makes a $5 billion annual loss.

0

105.389 - 122.088 Mike Hosking

And obviously, obviously, it goes without saying, it will turn around pretty damn fast if he manages to deliver on even one of his promises. which I'm assuming is why Goldman Sachs is apparently expecting revenue from the AI division to go from $3 billion last year to $322 billion in four years. But it is a big call, isn't it?

0

122.388 - 139.084 Mike Hosking

And that is without us even discussing the risks of buying into an IPO in and of itself, but especially an IPO without a proper six-month lock-up period. Now, ultimately, all of this comes down to Elon Musk, doesn't it? He's going to retain 80% of the voting power. He's going to call the shots.

0

139.064 - 149.513 Mike Hosking

He will be the flawed genius who becomes a trillionaire who will be responsible for whether this is a brilliant investment in a company that changes the world as we know it or an overhyped IPO.

0

151.298 - 153.822 Heather Duplessy-Allen

News of the world in 90 seconds.

153.842 - 160.612 Mike Hosking

So look, it has looked more and more likely that we've headed for full-scale war in Iran again. Strikes are continuing. The Secretary of War has no problem with this.

160.632 - 172.669

They're going to have tap, tap, tap bombs dropping on key facilities in Iran from the United States of America. The War Department is prepared to set the terms to ensure that we get the kind of deal President Trump expects.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the SpaceX IPO?

173.51 - 175.633 Mike Hosking

Donald Trump originally said this was only the beginning.

0

175.854 - 188.173

Yeah, there will be more bombing tonight. It'll be a... Bigger, bigger, more powerful. We are stopping a very evil nation which has killed thousands of our people.

0

188.558 - 200.17 Mike Hosking

Now, just in the last half hour or so, Trump has cancelled further strikes. We're going to have more details for you on that in just a second. Meanwhile, the Pentagon is in lockdown after a hazardous materials incident. Details are a little scarce.

0

200.67 - 215.545

Units, including their hazmat team, were currently operating at the Pentagon, along with their Pentagon Force Protection Agency. We do know, according to a source, that this is after systems detected a problem with the air quality in the building.

215.525 - 229.36 Mike Hosking

To Britain, where we have yet another blow for Sir Keir Starmer, the Defence Secretary John Healey has now quit over huge disagreement on military spending. On his way out, Healey accused the Prime Minister of, quote, short-changing Britain's armed forces, reformer all over it.

229.38 - 240.992

The former Defence Secretary John Healey has now said that the Prime Minister is unable, in other words, he's not in control, and Rachel Reeves is unwilling to keep the country safe.

241.327 - 266.085 Mike Hosking

So are the Tories. But what is shocking is what he's written in his letter, where he says that the Prime Minister is making the country less safe and putting our troops at risk at a time of increasing threats. And many from the party are in disbelief. I'm in a defence conference in central London right now. When the news was broken, the room just went absolutely flat. People are devastated.

266.943 - 283.92 Mike Hosking

As you can well imagine. And finally, good news for the Wagobe lovers that hate needles. The pill version of the weight loss drug has been approved in Britain. It's going to be on the shelves soon. It's the once a day tablet, replaces the weekly injections. The cost is not yet known, but the thought is to be around 220 bucks a month.

283.94 - 294.893 Mike Hosking

The Wagobe pill is also approved for the United States and the UAE. And that is news of the world and further news. proof of my obsession with Wegovia in 90 seconds. Now, here we go.

Chapter 5: What are the latest developments in the Super Rugby semifinals?

294.913 - 301.423 Mike Hosking

This is what's come out. We'll say it's the last 45 minutes now from Donald Trump based on, you know, from the truth social.

0

301.744 - 320.052 Mike Hosking

He says, based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and the bombings against Iran this evening. Discussions and final points have been in both concept and great detail discussed.

0

320.032 - 336.295 Mike Hosking

approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and others. The naval blockade will remain in force and effect until this transaction is finalised. Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly. So that sounds like the ceasefire.

0

336.315 - 353.178 Mike Hosking

If you're reading it like this, then it sounds like the ceasefire deal, the deal that he's been negotiating in the entire time we've been in the ceasefire. is actually now finally approved and able to be signed. We are going to get you analysis out of the US on that after 7 o'clock. Next up, though, let's go to Andrew Callaghan on the SpaceX IPO 613.

0

353.238 - 366.375

Heather, that's absolutely fantastic news that Trump has won this war again.

366.415 - 377.435 Mike Hosking

Isn't it just? Actually, Richard Arnold on that with a blow-by-blow in about 25 minutes' time. Right now, it's quarter past six. Andrew Keller has shorn partners with us. Morning, Andrew.

378.036 - 378.817

Good morning, Heather.

378.837 - 380.92 Mike Hosking

Give me your take on the SpaceX IPO.

Chapter 6: How is the FIFA World Cup expected to unfold?

381.42 - 398.042

Oh, my gosh. Where the heck do you start? So one o'clock tomorrow morning, this thing starts trading. So I'm sure we'll all be up staring at the screens looking at that. I have to be a little bit careful here because I can't make any recommendations. Listeners out there are going to have to make their own mind up. about how they feel about this and what they do.

0

398.102 - 421.897

But let's sort of run through some of the facts, shall we? So it's one of the largest IPOs in history, and it's very much expected that this exercise puts, well, we know that at $135 a share, you are talking about a company that's being valued at just under $1.8 billion. trillion U.S. dollars, which if you want a water cooler number this morning is about three trillion New Zealand dollars.

0

421.917 - 448.811

But they're actually only selling about 75 billion dollars worth of shares. So it's only a small part of the company actually being sold down through the IPO. And if you want some comparisons, Saudi Aramco 2019. $25 billion. Alibaba, 2014, 21.8. So massive when we look at it with regards to those. I saw a comment, unprecedented in size, structure, and scale, which I think is fair enough.

0

448.831 - 467.471

Now, in case people out there don't know who SpaceX is, US-based aeronautical telecoms AI company, founded in 2002. Elon Musk in the background. Three parts of the business. You've got the launch and the space infrastructure, so you design rockets, you launch rockets. Put satellites up there. They work with NASA. They work with the US government.

0

467.531 - 482.743

Starlink, probably reasonably well known in New Zealand, I would have thought. Starlink, you know, the satellites that you see across the sky. And then the AI part of it, which only got brought in in early 2026. And that's where Grok lives. Now...

Chapter 7: What challenges are being faced by the New Zealand government?

482.993 - 506.966

This valuation in the $1.8 trillion, there are many, many adjectives I could use, Heather, to describe this. Extended, frothy, elevated. There's no avoiding really the observation, though, that the valuation is nothing short of staggering. So you're having to value this company at a multiple of its revenue. And that's the key, Heather, and I think you said this earlier on.

0

507.146 - 527.889

The company makes a loss. The company didn't make any money, so it's valued at a multiple of its sales, close to 100 times its revenue. So there is a huge amount of expectation built into the sort of blue sky, the growth and the future and potentially, you know, when does this company become profitable? Enormous amount of expectation there.

0

527.909 - 545.181

If you are thinking, if listeners out there are thinking about getting involved in this, they need to reflect on that. So existing shareholders, they can sell down over time. There is part of this IPO that's reserved for friends and family. That's not subject to the lock-up restrictions. But there's one thing I do want to point out.

0

545.735 - 567.099

Heather here, this is what the market, sort of market trading after the IPO. And what I have to talk about here are the passive funds out there that simply track market indexes. Historically, Heather, SpaceX would not have gone into major market indexes because there's various rules as to, you know, company has to be profitable, et cetera.

0

567.419 - 576.932

But some of the index providers have changed their rules historically. So the FTSE, NASDAQ, the Russell indexes, they're going to bring SpaceX in. The S&P 500 won't.

Chapter 8: What are the key insights from the recent NZR Plus discussion?

577.453 - 587.689

This is highly unusual. It means these passive funds that follow these indexes will have to buy shares and also reduce some other holdings as well. So it could get...

0

587.669 - 616.191

really volatile and i think you also referred to this as well one thing you need to be aware of elon musk still owns a big chunk of the company he owns a special class of share though if you own a share you get one vote for your share he gets 10 votes per his share so in terms of voting right he remains very much the boss this is going to be fascinating can't wait to see how it all pans out so we'll just have to have a look tomorrow yeah it's going to be fascinating one way or the other hey what did you make of that situation and outlook for primary industries report

0

616.373 - 640.071

Well, interesting about the timing, isn't it, because it's field day, so we all had the beaming government people with the nice report there. This is the situation report for the primary industries. Here's a few quick takeaways from that. The forecast revenue, our export revenue from primary industries, $64.3 billion. That's forecast to June 26. That's up 6% on last year. Dairy, $28.6.

0

640.091 - 662.381

That's a 5% increase. Meat and wool increased. expected to increase 14% to $14.1 billion. Sheep and beef farmers, their profitability up 96%. They're actually making bucks now. Horticultural exports increasing 7% to $9.5 billion. 82% of our goods exports are from primary industries. So it's still overwhelmingly what we do.

0

662.721 - 669.871

These are very robust numbers, and it really just adds to that sort of whole hype about how well the agri-economy is doing at the moment.

669.891 - 673.296 Mike Hosking

It just looks very strong. Yeah, pleased to hear it. All right, give us the numbers.

673.677 - 697.999

Well, everything's changed from where it was, you know, a few minutes ago because now Trump's, you know, now the whole bombing Iran is off. So the flip-flop carries on. But what it's done is it turned markets around. The Dow Jones is now up 806 points, 1.6%, 50,723. The S&P 500 up over 1% as well, 7341. And the Nasdaq up 1.73%, so happy days, 25,605.

698.64 - 732.066

The FTSE 100 gained just on half a percent overnight, 10,303. The Nikkei was barely moved, 64217. The Shanghai Composite also only a small move, 3987, just down six points. 0.23% fall on the ASX 200, 8633. And the NZX 50 fell 0.39%, 13,202. Kiwi dollar, 0.5815 against the US, 0.8274 Aussie, 0.5034 Euro, 0.4343 pounds, 93.11 against the Japanese yen. Gold, 4,151.

732.086 - 746.668

And not unsurprisingly, the Brent crude price has fallen. It was about 94 bucks when I looked at it earlier. It's now trading at $90.66. So Brent crude much cheaper.
