No one's heard yet, so we'll feature that shortly. Jenny Mitchell's with us. Good morning. Good morning. Thanks for having me on. Not at all. I've been following you a little bit on Facebook and I've been seeing some of those recordings and songs you're doing and y you feel and sound excited. I take it you are.
I am excited. I um have been working on a new song that is coming out tomorrow, um the twenty fifth of September. And yeah, it's always so exciting when you get to the point where you can almost share um what you've been working on with the world. So I am excited today.
Good on you. Now I think since we last talked you've moved and you've moved to another country and you you speak to us this morning from Melbourne. Take us through that. Why and how did that evolve and has it worked out well?
Yes, so I've moved to Melbourne a year and a half ago and I pretty much moved because I had this completely life changing, incredible experience. Um I had the opportunity to tour with Casey Chambers, um, who is just an absolute icon and um an incredible, incredible um human. And so she took me around Australia on tour. I opened thirty-two shows around the country. last year, so just before that tour started, um my partner Toby and I moved to Melbourne and yeah, we're loving it. Um takes a while to settle in and a little different to Gore. Um but I am really loving it now.
Why Melbourne?
Um, I think there's a lot of music here. Um, and yeah, I just always really liked it and yeah, it's um I'm really enjoying it so far and I we live a very city life, no car, which again very different to where I grew up and just tram around and um yeah, I love it.
I I I know Melbourne well. My dad used to live there, I've been there many, many times and and and and it holds a great place in my heart. And so it's a very urban, sophisticated sort of place, isn't it?
Yeah, and just so much music. Like not only is it great for me to play, but there's so many venues within walking distance of where we live that I can go and watch music and get inspired and um yeah, really enjoy that side of it.
How how do you uh if if if the word is right, ingratiate yourself into the industry? Is there I mean, are they welcoming? Do they know of you? Do you knock on doors?
Why did Jenny decide to move to Melbourne and how has the city influenced her music?
How does that all work?
That does take time. Um, I have been going back and forth to Australia for about ten years um touring off and on. So I had a lot of people that I knew already. But definitely it does take time. Um probably more from the industry point of view. Like I knew lots of musicians. Right. But meeting all of the like APRA team and things like that, that takes time just going somewhat awkwardly to um like Christmas functions that they have and and introducing yourself. But um no, they've been very welcoming. So I'm very grateful for
That's good. So you turn up and say, G'day, I'm Jenny from Gore, I I'm I'm quite good at yeah, I'm quite good at music, you know, here's a here's a C D or a you know, whatever of it and and you go from there.
Yeah, and I need some friends. Can you be my friend?
How did the Casey Chamb 'cause Casey Chambers of people don't follow it, she's a s she's a big deal. She's the real thing. So how did that come about?
I played to the Tamworth Country Music Festival happens every year and I've gone to that for thirteen years um from New Zealand. I used to go over every year and um played everywhere I could, busted on the street, did anything um that anyone would let me do. And then a couple of years ago I played a show of my own, a little tiny show, and there were two people there. who came in, I knew they hadn't been to a gig before and they sang just about every word to my songs. And so I talked to them afterwards. Um and had no idea but they are actually really great friends of Casey's. Um, they're not musical, but they um love music and so they sent her my music.
