We were on guard that my father could try to come back and get me. So she went to the local police and the FBI. Everyone was sort of on a manhunt for my father. The media were everywhere trying to get information about us and our photos because they were trying to break the news story of what had happened. And here we're trying to hide. And so it was very chaotic.

I'm here with Lauren Burns who was kidnapped by her father and taken to Jordan when she was just a little girl. And if you haven't listened to her story yet, it's episodes 55 and 56 of the Miracle Files. It's an incredible story, so inspiring. And after sharing Lauren's story, we had so many listeners, so many of you comment that you wanted to know more about her story and send us questions. And so we're fortunate enough today to have Lauren here. To answer some of those questions that you all had. So for those of you who have heard Lauren's story already, but need a little refresher, Lauren, would you mind just kind of briefly summarizing your story for us?
Sure. And Holly, thank you for having me back on the Miracle Files. This is a big privilege. Um, I just I consider you and Emily a friend, just the way you walked me through the first time of recording and all of the comments that we got. Um, it was a lot. So thank thank you for all of the comments. But if it is your first time, um, yes, so little a little summary. In nineteen eighty seven I was seven years old. My parents met in the Dallas, Texas area. My father is from Jordan and my mother is American and she's Christian. My father's Muslim. And they met in the Dallas area. They were married for four years. And then they got divorced after I was born. Because of the religious differences. And everything was sort of normal for seven years.
And when I was seven years old, my father decided to kidnap me and he took me to Jordan. So instead of picking me up to take me to his house on the weekend like he normally did, he drove me to an airport and put me on a plane and the two of us went to Jordan. He actually left the rest of his family and he refused to bring me home. And so my mom and the details of the story are amazing. Um pulled off on an international rescue mission to bring me home. That included hijacking a school bus. We snuck over the um border between Jordan and Israel over the Jordan River, the King Hussein Bridge, and we escaped into Israel is how we got out. And Holly, it hit national, international News. It was It was on every headline, yeah, all over that an American woman had rescued her child from Jordan.
Yeah. Yeah, and so Yeah, yeah. And so now almost forty years later, I have uh written a book and it's it is a book about the kidnapping and what my life looked like before all the amazing mirac uh miracles of the rescue, but also the journey of healing. I feel like that was the biggest part of like what did I go through as a child of um you know, what did life look like after that rescue?
Yeah, so let's talk about that. What was it like that moment when you first came home?
Mm. So we might back up a d a couple days when I crossed over into Israel and a lot of it was very traumatic. I was in shock. It the memory is blurry. Um but I was with my mom and this whole rescue team. And we stayed in Israel for a few days just to get our bearings before we got on the airplane to go to back to the United States. While we were in Israel, a little part of my story, which I write about in the book, is Lewis Gossett Jr., he's a well known actor, he passed away a couple of years ago. He was the lead actor in Iron Eagle Three. During my rescue, Iron Eagle Three was being filmed in Israel.
