The Pat Kenny Show on News Talk. We start as usual on a Sunday morning having a flick through the Sunday newspapers. I'll give you the headlines first of all. The Sunday Times uh reminds us that uh U2 is fifty years of age across the top of the paper. The evil double life of Jeffrey Donaldson, budget to ease heating costs for thousands, and Kinhan's nine days to leave the UAE. The Business Post, uh I know I'm polarizing uh and An exclusive interview with the former Qantas boss Alan Joyce. The main headline revealed the state consultancy spend triples to five hundred and nineteen million. And also an interesting story at the bottom of the front page of the business post, environmental checks scrapped for housing projects up to two hundred and fifty units.

Yeah, actually you know what, that is not a bad idea. My daughter's just back from living in Australia and they have something very similar there, uh, for not just young people, for for everybody to encourage spending in hospitality and uh on cultural issues. It's it's called a a an income sacrifice. They're basically the same idea though, that you give people an allowance to spend going out.

Going out to cultural events. And do we know how limited that that what can you spend it on? Pints?

Um I know, not these this, not this, I don't think. The idea here is arts and music events. In in Australia you can spend it uh anywhere you like. You know, you can choose where you want to spend it. Um and you get text messages uh apparently saying, you know, you have now eight hundred dollars in your account, you need to get out and go to the theatre and go go for a meal. This is I think this is a good idea actually, and I think it'll be welcome. Um

I mean, you know, w one man's music is another man's noise. So, you know, defining what might be an artistic or cultural endeavor uh could be challenging.

Oh well still it'd be easy to tell b the difference between that and a knight in a pop.

Well the other story, as you said there, Pat, was about uh Kinnan's having to Kinnan being given nine days to live.

Sixty nine year old Christy Kennan. Yeah, he's been told to get out by the twenty ninth of September or something like that, because his visa has expired.

This is what I don't know. And apparently he risks being arrested when he steps off a plane in any um sort of uh sympathetic state or uh or in in an in any uh other country. I imagine um on the other hand they might roll out the red carpet for him in Moscow.
