What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
The Pat Kenny Show. With Timber Living Log Cabins. Saturday and Sunday from 10am. On Newstalk. Conversation that counts.
Henry McKean, I fear, might have his head drooping because he hasn't had much sleep. It's 5.37 in, no, 5.33 in New York. Henry, good morning. Good morning, Pat. And yeah, the sun is coming up. There were thunderstorms. There was excitement. But yeah, good morning, Pat. Good morning and happy 250th birthday. Thank you very much indeed. How happy it is remains to be seen. It's very hot over there and it will spoil some of the celebrations. But Taylor Swift did marry Travis Kelsey at Madison Square Garden. Did it all live up to the hype? No, absolutely, yeah. The hype was real. The stars started showing up from about 4 local time, that's 4 p.m., in their big blacked-out SUVs. And they went into this kind of sort of Thomas the Tank Engine tent, so you couldn't see them.
Hugh Grant actually walked in. Ed Sheeran was there. Ethan Hawke and Graham Norton was also spotted. And like that, they're in these huge, large, suburban SUV cars, so quite difficult to see. But really, really, exciting and in the end taylor and travis um did not have bridesmaids uh or groomsmen instead her brother austin swift served as taylor's man of honor and jason kelsey was travis's best man adam sandler is a friend of the couple and he was there officiating over the ceremony and the couple wore a christian dior designed by northern irish designer jonathan anderson his first A-list celebrity wedding dress. So a lot of excitement around that. We still haven't seen pictures yet. This has been on an absolute lockdown, huge, heavy police presence.
And the Empire State Building even got in on the act, turning blue and pink across the whole of New York. But for me, it was actually these big, massive pink statues adverts that popped up on Madison Square Garden which just clearly read just and the symbol for and T married so that's basically um you know Taylor and and Travis married that came up in pink and then there was this beautiful thunderstorm of heavy rain trying to get rid of that 40 degree heat it was something else I spoke to this expert Zach Schiffman from New York Magazine outside
I had a good spot over there on 33rd and 7th.
What happened at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding?
So I was able to see a lot of the escalades when they would roll down the window to show their QR code to get in. So I saw them all show their QR codes. I saw Julianne Moore. I saw George Stephanopoulos.
Did the wedding live up to the hype?
I saw Bowen Yang. I saw Alison Roman. I saw Lucy Dacus. I saw her producer Aaron Dessner. I saw Gerard Carmichael.
Who were the celebrities spotted at the wedding?
I saw a bunch of big men who I assume were football players but I wasn't sure. That's not my culture. There were a couple of people I saw. I saw Nikki Glaser. So it was definitely, I mean, I got a good glimpse from that spot I was in seeing people roll down their windows.
This really is a top, top wedding. And it's also top secret. Has it been frustrating for you as an entertainment journalist to not get access like perhaps you would have to other big events?
No, honestly, I think that I actually like don't love being in the room with celebrities in this way because it's like, you feel like sort of a lurker. And so it's like, I like where this is like, yep, I'm here to get the scene. I'm here to get the vibe, but I don't want anything from the celebrities. I'm very much like, go have your fun. At first, I obviously thought this was crazy to do MSG, but I have come around on it thinking I understand it. It's like, you know, I think there's a lot of backlash when celebrities have weddings in, like, historic venues and things like that. And so this is like, no one's precious about Madison Square Garden. Like, it's like, you know. 1960s. No one's upset that she's taking it over.
I mean, it's obviously the street closures have, you know, obsessed people, but, like, it's not like a historic building where, like, this is going to offend anyone.
So that's Zach Schiffman from New York Magazine. Henry, did the fans actually come out to show their faces and their support?
