The Pomp And Joe Show
10AM - Tyler Kennedy would trade Murashov and a first rounder for Jason Robertson; Do the Penguins owe it to Sid and Malkin to make that trade and go for it?
29 Jan 2026
Chapter 1: What trade proposal is Tyler Kennedy considering for the Penguins?
Oh, yes, he is. He's sitting right across from me with a Nashville, Tennessee cap on and a flannel. He looks like a real man today, doesn't he, Tyler? He looks like a lumberjack. No, you see his jacket?
A real man. I've never been accused of being that, I suppose. That jacket he had on?
Yeah.
National League. That's national television right there.
That's over there. That's something Jim Nance would wear for the game of the week, right? Or something Mike Emmerich would have worn since we're on hockey right now. Or maybe Aaron Andrews. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Look at this. I don't think any of the three of us are handymen around the house. I could be wrong about you, Tyler. I know Bob and I are not.
No.
You know, I actually had an issue at my house. I feel like Bob had one too, but.
Both of you, you were both having gutter issues and they're ones that Malsy's Blue Chew can't fix.
Yeah. Well, maybe, you know, have they ever tried it for that? Yeah. But I came home, you know, actually big shout out to Swickly Academy. big win and then the varsity lost by a goal, but it was a huge game for varsity hockey at Swickly middle school. The hockey's really coming along at Swickly. It's nice to see.

Chapter 2: What are the implications of trading Miroshov and a first-rounder for Robertson?
I still don't think they're saying that.
Because you're going to have to sign him. But how about if he continues on this path?
Then you have a decision.
It's a good decision.
Very good, yeah.
But for a player, there's nothing better than playing good hockey. You know what I mean? There's nothing better than finding your game and helping a team win. When you're getting paid big bucks and you suck on the ice, you'll give all that money back to find your game again. And that's where I think it could come into conversation like, hey, we have something good going on here.
Would you take this for another year or two? And that's where I think that might be the convincing thing. You know, again, watch them. You know, I wouldn't be surprised if they upset someone in the playoffs and go past the first round. And now we're like, wow. Yeah, I agree. I think.
I think it's a great problem to have, but I also think that you have to figure out, you know, is Miroshev good enough? Do you think he can come right up? Everybody seems to be. However, plan B, and I'll throw this at you because it didn't work when Jim Rutherford tried it. They had goalies here. They had Philip Gustafson in the system. They wanted to win more.
They traded him, even though they knew he was a good goalie, to get ā who was it from? Ottawa. And he didn't turn out. He's a veteran player. Derek ā no.

Chapter 3: How does the Penguins' current roster compare to previous championship teams?
Skinner, by the way, is at the end of a three-year $7.8 million deal, $2.6 million per year. I would imagine he wants to be much higher than that, but $5 million, $6 million a year for a good goaltender is pretty good.
And just for the record also, Miroshov, he's actually having a better year than he did last year. Just kidding. He's got a 9.22 save percentage, 9.13 last year.
Look up Blomquist just out of curiosity. That's too much work. No, he's having a good year as well.
All right. You guys go ahead and talk, and I'll look up Blomquist.
Is he blooming? Is the Blomquist blooming? But when Miroshov came up, was he? Yeah, he was. I mean, he caught everybody by, you know. Yeah, but was he like, oh, my God, we cannot send this guy down? Or was he okay and we're like, hey, he still needs more time to develop? I felt he was like, no.
Didn't he have like a 920 save percentage here too?
Last year's small sample size, yes, I think. But this year he was up for one game they had, and he didn't do that well in that one game. Not that that means anything, but I'm just saying. Yeah, I think you need more eyes on him. But when I think of Robinson, the guy's proven. The guy's proven goal scoring. The hardest thing in the NHL to do is to score big goals, be a franchise player.
They're so hard to find. And the other one right behind that is to find a very good goalie. So you've got to give some to get some. But I always thought with Skinner and Arthur ā Both are never the reason why the Penguins, when they lose games, they're the reasons why. You know what I mean? Last year was a different story.
This year, the goalie's not the situation of why they don't win games when they go on a losing streak. So that's a different feel.

Chapter 4: What factors contribute to the Penguins' recent success this season?
Is that not the consensus opinion that you get from people? I'm asking honestly. Are people not thinking that? Because you know more of them over there than me.
Well, I always think of Marc-Andre Fleury, the guys that come in at 18 and jump right into the league. Those are the guys that I feel are going to be the future. Mark-Andre Fleury never, because of the lockout, he went to the NHL, but he would have played in the NHL right off the start. He was a first overall.
Fleury you're talking?
Yes.
I mean, I think this kid's capable right now of playing in the league.
Not to the stats of Mark-Andre Fleury.
Well, what were Fleury's rookie year stats?
Well, he's been up and down. But that's the one thing. Goalies go up and down, right? No matter who you are, they're going to get that way.
Marashov had one bad game here this year, his last game. Up until then, he had 9-13 save percentage. I think he had a shutout, right, over Nashville? He did. I don't know, man. It's a great question because really the larger question there is how much is Dubas ā

Chapter 5: How do Sid and Malkin influence the Penguins' trade decisions?
I think, guys, when something clicks and they figure out what kind of player they are or what kind of goal, they can change your career around. And is it still early for Skinner? Yeah, it's still very, very early. But, again, I love the veteran, the way he talks, the way he carries himself, the way he kind of fits the mold. Like, hey, I'm the veteran guy here.
Like, no, no, everything goes through me back there. He has a contagious personality, too. Everybody loves him. And a great mustache.
One hell of a mustache.
One hell of a mustache.
Now I'm really thinking about that other question, though. That's a great question. Can we take some calls? You ready to take calls?
I'd love to take calls, but who's another guy? Is that Wyatt Johnson, another very 25 goal scorer that they're going to have to get rid of someone. Yeah, they're up against the cap. Maybe don't go after him and offer them something for that Wyatt Johnson because he's a first and second line winger that's extremely talented.
Tyler Kennedy has presented a question that now has me flummoxed as I go back and forth, but I wouldn't do it. He would. Bob would, I think.
I'm on the fence with it.
I talked to somebody else here over at the Penguins who said they wouldn't do it.

Chapter 6: What are the potential risks and rewards of trading for a star player?
He's a really good player. What I'm saying, I'm reading he wants 16.
Well, if he wants that, that's a projected thing by not his agent or anybody else. That's just what the market says.
We'll get to this. We'll get to all of this coming up. Off the Top brought to you by J.P. Roofing and Siding. Tyler Kennedy brought to you by... Tyler Kennedy. Kennedy. You would have been incredible. Hopewell High School back when I was a student there. Yeah, we did that.
I liked doing that. You would be unbelievable.
You should do that as a side job, for God's sakes. No, we have some very talented guys in this town. There's no room for that. Where would I do it? Anywhere. Anywhere. Maybe I should do it here. You already do, Tyler Kennedy. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the anchor of this program, Joe Starkey. Can you introduce limits, if you would? And now the man behind the glass.
We consider him to be the Wizard of Oz of this radio station. Please welcome Austin City Sweeper Beto.
City Sweeper returns.

Chapter 7: How does the current Penguins management view the team's future?
He was here for three months. We have an end of the year party. We're bar hopping in Southside. Every girl at every bar said, oh, hey, Crankshaft. Hey, have a good night, Crankshaft. And we're like, have you been going out? He goes, yeah, I've been going out a little bit. But it was so funny. They actually called him Crankshaft. Yeah, it was like, I don't know if he's like, hey, call me Dougie.
And then once they got him, hey, call me Crankshaft. Or he went there with someone and they're like, hey, Crankshaft.
I remember Biles, I called him, I asked some silly question and Biles must have said, you just wanted to say Crankshaft, didn't you? Yes. What a nickname. But Aginla was kind of overkill. Wasn't he in the end, I guess? Yeah. I mean, he piled up points. You guys rolled through two rounds and then you had to wait forever. And then you played the Bruins and it just, it didn't work in the end.
Yeah, we had enough scoring power, in my opinion. And I think when you push certain guys... Chemistry means so much in a lineup. I think chemistry means more than almost talented players. That's why when you think of teams that go really far, you're like, oh my God, why? Well, because like the Penguins right now, are they the most talented on paper? No.
But are they coming at you with chemistry, all four lines rolling at you? That means a lot. But to get him, I... Nothing against him, but I did think he threw off the chemistry within the lineup. So you're saying too much of the same thing. They have too many high-leverage players. Too many superstars, right? You need some workers. You need some other guys in there.
But he was one of the better human beings I've ever met.
Yeah, he was fun to talk to. Well, you proposed a trade here, Tyler. I don't know how we came around to it, but it was Miroshov and a first-round pick for Jason Robertson. And it got me thinking. I wouldn't do it. Bob said he would. Tyler would. Limits, would you make this deal?
I would not. I don't think giving up Miroshov is the right way to go just because of the potential that he's shown. And I think having a franchise staple in goal for 10 plus years is too valuable to pass up. Well, let's take the calls. Here is Jack. He's in Brookline.
Jack, you're on with Styler. Styler. Styler Kennedy. Stanley Cup champion, Tyler Kennedy, not Skyler Thompson. Go ahead.

Chapter 8: What are the listeners' opinions on the proposed trade for Robertson?
Yeah. Sid would be the only guy you owe an explanation or you want his thought process in the conversation of what's happening because When you think of culture and when you think of guys leading by example, like Sid's the best I've ever seen in any sport. The way the Pittsburgh Penguins still wear suits to the game, how they come professional, how they act, everything runs through Sid.
How your leader is, and Sid is the best. Do you owe him to sell off all the assets? Sid probably wouldn't want that either. You know, Sid wants to see the Penguins be successful after his career. He doesn't want them to be like, oh, once I'm done, they're not going to do well. Sid knows the situation.
Well, now they're stocked up, Bob, right? To the point where even if they make a big deal, you're not really mortgaging the future, I don't think. Although Miroshov, to me, would be one step too far. But you know what I mean.
Yeah. Matt hit us up on Twitter, and this is true, though, because Ottinger, I knew he signed a big deal, but the key to this deal down on Ottinger. Wait, I didn't hear the beginning of that. What did you say? Jake Ottinger.
Yeah.
$66 million. I knew he had a long-term deal, eight years. But what I didn't know is I read into his contract here, it looks like he has a no-movement clause through the next six years. So it's up to him, and he's the guy they put in goal.
Yeah.
That's an impediment, but there are other guys down there that you can probably offer up in that situation. For sure. Next, here is Tomcat in Mount Lebanon.
Hello, Tomcat.
