And then your thoughts on how this staff is shaping up as a whole. Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of people expected this to be Tolzien. And I don't blame you guys. A lot of the whispers around this were towards Scott Tolzien from the beginning. And it's kind of interesting. They're both kind of from the same background in some ways, but Angelico is more of a tight end-centric coach, which means he's going to have more of an impact on the run game. I actually, generally speaking – Much preferred somebody in the OCC to have more of an impact towards the run game, just because they're so pass game centric with some of the hires they've made.
But Tom Arth, Frank Cignetti, it was heavily slanted towards the pass game. That's what Mike McCarthy is.
What are the latest updates on the Steelers' coaching staff?
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. I'm just worried a little bit about the run game because that's not necessarily the strong suit of Mike McCarthy's scheme. they need someone i think to bring a different uh perspective i think getting someone from a mcveigh tree which off the kevin o'connell branch is actually a really smart move if they can do that i'm assuming that is what is going to happen now they did interview linda wells as well uh you know maybe they go back to him the fact that they're they're hiring a tight ends coach to be their next oc i mean that's not super common nowadays in the nfl it's often quarterbacks coaches that get those jobs. The tight ends coaches have to understand everything.
They have to understand protection schemes. They have to understand run schemes. They have to understand route concepts. They have to understand it all because the tight end does everything. So I'm very intrigued, actually, to have a tight ends coach as your offensive coordinator specifically to fill in the blanks that the Steelers have with McCarthy's staff right now, as well as the rest of the staff. I mean, the staff is honestly pretty solid. There are a few hires here and there that maybe I'm not a huge fan of, but I think the O-line duo of James Campin and Jari Evans, really strong duo there. How many teams can say that their assistant offensive line coach is a borderline Hall of Famer? I think that they have veteran coaches all over the place, which I like.
They also have a mix of youth. They have a guy like Ramon Shin Young, their new running backs coach, who is a who is viewed as a young up and comer. And I think they will still add some youth to this coaching staff. So there's definitely an interesting mix here. Despite it being all Pittsburgh and Pitt guys, it actually is turning into what I think is a pretty solid staff. Yeah, and I think the offensive coordinator is sort of like being the defensive coordinator under Tomlin. It's mostly just a nominal position, yes? Well, I do think that they are able to bring their own flavor to it. They're able to bring their game planning ideas. Obviously the head coach gets the final say, but you can look at Mike McCarthy scheme going from Kellen Moore to Brian Schottenheimer and there were differences.
So, you know, it's not like they're completely useless.
