He said this morning, it would make sense for the Steelers to trade Nick Herbig for Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee. That sounds like one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Yeah, I mean, unless there's some kind of scouting report on Tanner McKee that he's the next guy, but isn't Will Howard that guy? I mean, if that's the case, Donnie, just ride it out. Like if Nick Herbig wants to test free agency this year, squeeze one more really good year out of him because he's a really good player who helps your defense. Yeah, I'm not trading him for a backup quarterback. A guy that has played in six games, he has started two games in two seasons in Philly. Yeah, no thanks. Doesn't Barnwell think Kenny Pickett was available?
What is he doing? This is the first I heard of this. It's insanity. An awful idea. Hold on a second here. Isn't the real question with Nick Herbig, is he TJ Watt's eventual replacement? I mean, if you gave Nick Herbig every down snaps, would he not have a real good chance to be a top 10 pass rusher in the NFL? I think so, Ray. I'll let you answer that question, but I absolutely think so. Well, as a pass rusher, yes, but, you know, Nick is probably, what, 10 to 15 pounds lighter than TJ. I don't think he's as strong at the point of attack at the line of scrimmage in terms of defending the run. So you give a little bit away there. And then the other issue, Joe, is you're still paying TJ for the next three years.
Are you going to pay her big, a nice – free agent contracts. Let's say you give Herbig the Highsmith deal because you really believe in him. It's still going to be a backup for a few years before TJ's contract is up. So it doesn't make a lot of sense financially. to be honest with you. So that's their dilemma. What do they do with all that depth? Here's what makes less sense to have all this money invested in an aging and declining T.J.
