I don't think Tomlin has any confidence in Rudolph whatsoever, and we don't know anything about Will Howard. So to get to my point, here's a name that no one has brought up since he got injured. What about Drew Aller? So, I mean, you know my thoughts on Drew Aller, right, Chuck, as a Penn State guy? Or is this a call to try to get me to throw Drew Aller under the bus a little bit? No, I think that, you know, I supported your idea before the injury. I know he was inconsistent in those first few games. I don't think that was all his fault, though, either. But the fact is, he's injured.
You wouldn't have to get him in the first or even second. He may fall to the third or fourth round. You're not going to risk a whole lot picking him up, and you've got time for him to heal and develop. So...
How has Pitt volleyball performed in previous tournaments?
I haven't heard anybody bring up his name, but he will be in the draft this year. Here's my honest opinion on Allerchuk. I thought that he was going to be able to develop this season into a guy that was going to be a first-round pick into a top-10 draft pick where the Steelers would have to trade up for him to be able to get him. He was also, I think, failed by the coaching staff, where their offensive coordinator, Andy Kotelnicki, runs an offensive system that Terry Smith, the interim head coach, basically said, enough of these trick plays, enough of the gimmicks, enough of the two-quarterback system that you tried to run, like they ran last year with Bo Pribula, who has entered the transfer portal, might transfer back to Penn State, where...
They could never properly get Aller into a rhythm. They never worked towards his strengths in throwing the ball downfield. They tried to move him around way too much. And the offense really never just tried to cater to a lot of his strengths. And a lot of people, at least in the Penn State community, think that the coaching staff kind of broke Aller where, yeah, he has all the talent in the world. And yes, he... It's not on the coaching staff that he threw a horrendous interception against Oregon, a terrible interception to end the season against Notre Dame. There are flaws there. There's also big-time talent and a lot of athletic ability in his 6'4 frame where I would not pick him in the first. In the second round, you'd have to strongly convince me I would pick him in the third.
I would be okay with that. Now, is it the right move for the Steelers? Depending on who's available in the first round, but I think he's probably a third-round pick at this point.
