Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
We're back for the final several minutes of this program before we turn over to the PM team. And Joe Starkey's about to make some predictions about tonight's games. There are two of them as the Pirates are in Cincinnati for the first of three against the Reds. And it's Braxton Ashcraft on the mound. First time we're going to see him this year.
Chapter 2: What predictions does Joe Starkey make for the Penguins-Islanders game?
And then, of course, tonight with Noah Evgeny Malkin and a game-time decision, Sidney Crosby. It's the Penguins in a really big, big, big game. So, Joe, how do you see it breaking down in both?
I see Braxton Ashcraft having a big game tonight, Bob.
Chapter 3: Who is starting for the Pirates against the Reds tonight?
I really like him, and I think he's going to go probably about five innings of one-run ball, and the Pirates go into Cincy and win the game 6-2. I think that Marcelo Zuna comes back from a little respite and has a home run. And then the Penguins, I already told you, I think they lose 5-4 in overtime. We talked about the Penguins for the whole first hour and then at the top of the one hour.
And I think the theme is this, that it's going to be wild because it's on the island because it always is. We just looked at some scores of recent games there. Of course, they only played there once this year. I think it goes overtime, and I think Schaefer wins it for the Islanders in overtime. The Penguins still come away with a precious point.
Chapter 4: What impact does Sidney Crosby's game-time decision have on the Penguins?
It's going to be complete drama. It's going to be madness. It's going to be like so many of their games. Think of the Ottawa game.
Yeah, I think we're going to look at a game like the Ottawa game. It's going to be one of those kinds of games.
Think of the Carolina game in Carolina. Those are two of the best Penguin regular season games I can remember.
Yeah, so I think the Penguins are going to win on a late Anthony Mantha goal. It's going to be something like 5-4.
You think Sid plays? He's a game-time decision.
Yes, I think he does. Malkin doesn't. Lazat won't. If they're going to do anything, they need Lizotte back here at some point. They really do. But you say get a point. If you gain a point, you lose a point in the standings. So the Islanders move up ahead of you even more.
I mean, the idea here is just to get in, though, and every point is precious.
I understand that, but you want to also stretch it out a little bit. For sure.
Ideally, you get two in regulation.

Chapter 5: How do the Penguins' recent performances affect their playoff chances?
Yeah, although two of four, the season doesn't end. No, but three of four gives you a little bit of separation, I think. It sure does. I mean, this is a big ask. Is Detroit playing tonight?
I don't know.
Or are they home waiting? Lemaitre, you're the beat writer. They're home waiting, Bob. Or no, they're coming here.
Chapter 6: What makes tonight's Penguins game particularly significant?
They're coming to Pittsburgh. So they're in Pittsburgh waiting for the Penguins to get here. They're flying today, yeah. That's a tough one.
That is a tough one. And they're right in the thick of things also. So they have to win Detroit.
Yeah, I mean, they're one of the teams that hasn't been playing well, and so are the Penguins. They've lost three of four in regulation. I think Boston's a sneaky team as they get in. They're probably going to get in. They're a tough team to play against. I wish Miroshov was playing tonight, Bob, and that's dedicated to Sean Gentile, that statement.
Wouldn't that be funny and fun to watch if all of a sudden he appears in any of these games down the stretch and is a reason why they somehow make the playoffs and he got a rookie 21, you're a 22, whatever he is. Um, That's the thing about sports. There are a lot of stories to be written. As we saw yesterday in the UConn game, you never know how a game's going to end up, as bizarre as that was.
But I'm looking forward to this game tonight. I love high-stakes hockey, especially if they get to the playoffs. We haven't had that for three years, Joe. It would be wonderful to watch a series like Pittsburgh-Buffalo, even though I don't want that one necessarily. Although you might. You might want to take on Buffalo because they're new to this. They may not understand ā
with a lot of their players on their team who haven't been through this, what it's like in a seven-game series. I can't believe the Capitals are still in it, yet here they are. You see, Ovechkin got another hat trick the other day.
He's still cranking out goals. It's unbelievable. It feels like there's ā how much is nine divided by 82 limits? Can you do that on your phone? It still feels like there's a lot of season left, Bob, and it feels to me like I wish it ended after 72, which it should.
There's 18 possible points for them.
Right. So they're at 88 right now. They need 12. They might need at least 12.
