Why do many pet industry professionals think more clients equals more profit?
Welcome back to the Pet Industry Mentor Podcast. I am your host, Chanel Conquest, and if you are new here, I actually ran and sold my very own multiple six figure pet sitting business in the Southern Highlands, New South Wales. Everyone thinks this is something achievable overnight, and it certainly is not. And now I share all my tips, tricks, insights, and experiences with you guys in hopes that. not only it helps you have a more successful business, but together we can raise the standards of the industry.
Today I will be chatting about something that I know a lot of you Probably already think. Or already consider And you're probably probably you're probably even making moves to get more clients.
And what I'm gonna talk about at first you might be like that doesn't make sense. Of course, we need more clients to make more money and to a degree. Yes, that's true. But just stay with me because a lot of you have great clients. You have a great level of clients. Even if they're not active, you have clients in your um CRMs. So you just don't need to continue. continuously keep fighting for more and more and more clients. Unless of course you're a new startup and you're building. But I know most people that listen are already in their post-startup phase and they think the next step is just to continuously hustle to get more clients. Everyone jumps to like the same thing. I you know, I simply need more bookings.
I simply need more leads, or I just need more people finding.
And while that again is true, it's not the main
actual problem people are having. Like that's not the issue. And the reason I know that's not the core issue is because I've worked with enough of you now, plus I've been there myself to see the pattern, to recognize the pattern.
What's actually going on is you're trying to pour more, get more clients, you know, book up your calendar more, bring on staff. Into something that isn't actually already working properly. So instead
of fixing your income issues, It just makes you more stressed. It stretches you thinner. It makes things worse. Like bringing in more clients is not gonna fix any messy behind-the-scenes stuff, like low prices, like bending on your boundaries, not having policies in place. Put it this way to yourself. Your exact situation now. So however you feel now, if you doubled your clients to
Tomorrow, would your clients actually feel better? Or would you
feel more stressed and more behind and more overwhelmed? Because I know for a fact that for most people, it's the second one. People are taking something that already stresses them out. Already has a lot of broken parts or slow-moving parts and they're trying to double it. They're trying to triple it. And I'm like, what do you think's gonna happen? Just because more income is coming in, magically the whole business will just start running really smoothly, be more manageable, be more sustainable. Absolutely not. Let's unpack it properly then. When you say, Oh, I need more clients. what you're really saying is I'm not making enough money. Right? Because no one wants a thousand clients, I'm sure. We have a certain goal in mind.
I can't imagine anyone's goal is a specific number of clients. For some reason you've been like, I've w I've worked it out. Just need even more clients. And
that's hardly ever the right angle. I've seen people Fully booked. Like genuinely flat
out, working every day, running around, barely sitting down, never having a day off. And still not making the money that they want, or their life sucks. Like their life genuinely sucks. They have no processes, no systems, no help, no nothing. It's just them trying to make as much money as possible by whatever means possible. And it's not sustainable. I've seen those same people crash and burn and no longer have a business. It does not work. If you're doing all of that and still not making the money you want, how does that make sense to you at all? Like how is that the answer to double your workload?
It's not going to magically fix your issues. If more clients was the answer, you'd be sorted by now.
