You are listening live to the program, your teams, your town, your program. And here we go. His year again.
Rory is a rare repeat winner at Acosta. And now Andrew Benintendi steps to the plate. He's pinch hitting for Tanner Murray. Inside, off the plate, ball four. And that'll walk and run. We are tied at five here in the sixth. Pitch gets away. Here comes Harris. And the Sox retake the lead on a wild pitch. A sweeping slider. And this is nowhere near the plate. 0-2. Runner goes. Swung and missed.
Ball game. Sir Anthony Dominguez shuts the door on the Royals. And now, with as many home runs as Vinny, Bobby, and Salvi combined, Soren Petro. Right you are, Kay. Right you are. Petro on the program on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Thank you for joining us here on... We are ready to steamy? Sticky?
Chapter 2: What are the latest developments in the Transfer Portal?
A little sticky today. We're getting there. A little bit. Warm week, and then I saw like 52 on Saturday. So there it is. Of course. Sweat your stones off going to work, and then back to merr on the weekend when you get some time off. Enjoy it, people. Enjoy it. It's the Midwest. We like to find it charming. We do. Is what we like. It's quaint. It is a Monday edition here of the program.
We're going to talk to Matt Derrick. We'll talk some draft. Reuben Bain Jr. is the car accident he was involved in, taking him off the board for the Chiefs. I think Reuben Bain's been his guy, right? Finding out that was the first of two citations for careless driving that involved some sort of accident. The second one didn't involve injuries, but... But what does this do?
How much do you put into something someone did when they were a sophomore in college? How much does the second offense impact? I put a lot into it, frankly, when you consider that he's now a senior in college. It was two years ago. It wasn't 20 years ago.
He was 19, but the second one to me, the fact that he did it again, and whether or not someone was hurt or not, the second offense makes you think, okay. It wasn't just one night. It was something he does. Yeah. And he had enough things to recover from. This didn't help. Yeah. We'll talk about that, where that puts him on the board. I don't know. Maybe it puts him on the board at 29.
Or is it a sign that you can't trust the guy? We'll talk about that.

Chapter 3: What issues are affecting the Royals' offense?
Matt Derrick coming up in the 3 o'clock hour. Two Minute Drill coming up at 4. We'll go around the country. Exotic locales like... D.C. Louisville. And Phoenix. Phoenix. And Cincinnati. And Cincinnati, Ohio. Hey, Mo. Mo Egger. In Cincinnati, Ohio. Always good to hear from Mo. Yes. David Lesky will be with us in the 5 o'clock hour. He joins us in studio to talk some Royals baseball.
We've got a smorgasbord of topics. We have the Reuben Bain. For some reason, do you remember the Oregon running back? And then he actually had 1,000 yards with the Broncos. He's one of Mike Shanahan's 1,000-yard backs. Reuben Drones. Oh, yeah. Did he go to Virginia? No, he went to Oregon. Oregon. Thomas Jones went to Virginia. That's true. Yeah, I remember him. It was D-R-O-U-G-N-S. Yeah.
I remember Reuben Drones. I always have to stop myself from calling Reuben Bain... Reuben Drones Jr. But, yes, I digress. Anyway, that's going on, which I think is of note. The Royals can't hit. Boy, howdy. And when they do, they can't pitch. And Flory Budunga is going to Louisville, and presumably the guy that you're saving your money to pay is in Lexington, Kentucky right now. Yeah.
Terrell Stokes. Yeah. Is it Terrell? I think it's Terran Stokes. Terran Stokes. T-Y-R-A-N. Terran Stokes is in Lexington, Kentucky, visiting the U.K. Did he already have his visit here?
Chapter 4: How does careless driving impact player evaluations?
I don't know. I thought he did. He definitely had an unofficial visit. He was at the Arizona-Kansas game. That's right. But I know, because I was on in Louisville earlier today discussing this with Andy Sweeney, I assume, who we'll be discussing with us later. See, it's reciprocal. It's reciprocal. There are other terms we could use. Yes. And you can imagine what road they would be down.
It's a family show. Absolutely. What was his take on it? His crystal ball, was it... Well, blue colored. I was telling this story. No, he he he was just quizzing me. He didn't really like he was like, I'm hearing he's going a little. No, no. Yeah, he didn't. He didn't. He didn't have any of that.
But I did share with you and Mick or maybe it's just you and Jason Anderson off the air before we got started here today. He then asked me about someone named Freeman. Said, well, also in Lexington is so-and-so Freeman. And then fortunately said, since you're a Syracuse guy, what can you tell the Kentucky fans about Freeman? I didn't really watch that much Syracuse basketball this year.
What can you tell them? And I said, if you didn't watch that much, I might have watched 32 minutes more than you.
Chapter 5: What are the implications of Reuben Bain's driving citations?
And I proceeded to talk about Adrian Autry and why they made a change at the coach. See, when you don't know, you talk intelligently about something you do know, and you just misdirect. Then I would have hated it because what I would have done to myself in that situation. Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. So that is why they made the change to McNamara. Now back to Freeman. Your thoughts on Freeman?
One of my favorite. Sweeney did not pin me down. And I am grateful. One of my favorite authors, Christopher Hitchens, whenever he was being interviewed and he didn't really have that, he'd say, I don't have a sufficient answer for that. He goes, I'm the kind of person that if I don't know, I'm not going to sit here and BS about it. I'll just say I don't know. Because it's amazing.
More people should take advantage of that opportunity. So I'm like, I don't know. Let's look up. Let's see if I can get in the ballpark here. Look up Fremont, because I have not looked at it since. This was just at 1 o'clock that I was on with him. I'm going to guess... I think I've seen him. Does he wear it? Do you have the page open? I do. Last year's Syracuse. Does he wear a single digit?
He does. Okay. Is he 6'6"? It's the ultimate single digit. Is he one? It's one. Okay. Is he 6'6"? No. What do we got? 6'9", 205. Nailed it. Nailed it. 16 and a half point seven boards. 47%. What year was he? Sophomore. He was our number one recruit two years ago. Out of Washington, D.C., Donnie Freeman. I got the single digit part right.
Donnie Freeman, it sounds like he would have been in an R&B group in the 1970s. 6'6", I thought was pretty good, because I thought maybe like 6'4"-6'8", I could get away with it.

Chapter 6: What strategies can the Royals implement to improve hitting?
Be like, oh, he's not that tall. Oh, no, he's taller than that. But no. No. No, 6'9", I'm clearly bluffing. Wasn't quite as bad as way back when. If you've been a long-time listener to this station at various...
spots on the dolly remember the fabulous sports babe and she was once asked about ray caruth who later went on to more renowned than just uh do you hang on real quick let's let's do you know ray caruth is I'm asking Kyle for those. I just asked Darcy. We both don't know. Neither one of you know? Okay, that's great. The younger Jerry.
So Ray Carruth was a Colorado University wide receiver drafted in the late first round. He went to prison, didn't he? Carolina Panthers. He killed his girlfriend. Convicted of conspiracy to murder. Yeah, I don't know if they know he shot, but he was in the car. Yeah. And it was like a drive-by type of thing. So anyway, Ray Carruth. Ray Carruth. And she goes, oh, yeah, yeah, someone called in.
What about Ray Carruth? Oh, yeah, yeah, the big tight end. Not really, 5'11", whiteout, but the big tight end. I remember that when that came out. You did better than she did. Yeah. Well, listen, if he had pinned me down, I'd have been like, I have no idea. That's why I just say I don't know.
I tip my hand by saying I've only watched about 32 more minutes of Syracuse basketball than you have here, Sweeney. You were on Sound Off last night. A few weeks back, Stan Weber and I were on with Daniel Sperry, who covers sporting and the current. And one of the questions was, what will the current look like this year?
And so Stan and I both said, how about we go first and we just defer to Daniel at the end? And we did. Stan deferred to me and I said, I'm going to defer. devote my time or cede my time to the senator from soccer, Senator Sperry. I could make something up, but it wouldn't be a waste of time. Let's let Daniel go. And he did so. I felt very good about that.
I think this would be the general rule on that one. They've got a talented roster. Ownership is spared. No expense to put the finest players on the pitch. They'll probably fire their coach in a few weeks.

Chapter 7: How are the Royals' batting statistics compared to the league?
Isn't that pretty much it? Yeah. That squad, I mean, they're really good. They're really talented, but they go through coaches. It ain't nobody's business. They do. The 80s Yankees of coaching women's soccer. They're in a tournament. I forget the sponsored name of the tournament. And they just got by this team from Brazil. It was 6-0 at the half. I'm assuming they won. Squeaked by.
I'm assuming they won, but, you know. Can't confirm. All right, let's talk... 6-1. 6-1 in the final. Yeah, they... Got one in late. All I know is down at 41, the game was on, and I was watching, and I'm like, the Brazilian team looked like they had a 10-year-old running around. I mean, this young lady was tiny. And I'm like, is this like an under, like what kind of, you know. Under 16 match?
Yeah, like how are they squared up with this team exactly? But anyway, the current are really good, and we like that. That's fantastic. All right, what do you want to do? Where do we want to go? Kyle, let you pick. Want to talk your Flory Budunga? Or do you want to talk Can't Hit? Yeah, we can get the transfer portal out of the way. Okay. Did you see this coming?
Like when he went into the portal, I'm saying once he goes into the portal and you're hearing these dollars, then you know reality may be that he's not going to be back in Kansas. But when the season ended, did you think... He would not be back. No, I expected him to do what he did last year, and that's hit the portal and looking for a raise from Kansas. Right.
And then Kansas to pony up the money and he'd stay. They'd find some happy medium. Right. So he's not. What does this mean? That... I think it means, it could be one of two things. Kansas is not in a situation to pony up adequate money to keep somebody or acquire somebody. Or two, Floyd Badunga way outweighed his, or... His Kansas was right in not resigning him. The money didn't make sense.

Chapter 8: What are the expectations for the Royals moving forward?
And somebody else was bound to pop on him the way that often happens in sports. Someone will trade for somebody. So, well, then no one's going to trade for that guy. Well, somebody will. You know, somebody will give Flory Badunga that money. And it was end up being Louisville. I'm not sure which one of those is more likely to be true. I guess both could be true.
But as far as assessing whether or not Kansas is in any kind of, you know, blaming position or looking negative at them, they may have just said, look, he's not worth what he's asking for. We'll see. Tell me the. What do we hear all year from Bill Self when it came to Flory Bedunga? He gushed over Flory Bedunga. Talked about how he was dominating.
Well, it's not very often you see a guy who only scores this many points that dominates the game. And he went on and on about Flory Bedunga. He did. Unlike, which isn't generally like him. Right. To really just outwardly praise a guy as repeatedly. Your read on it is correct. You know, it's one of two things. Either the price tag has grown to a point that Kansas either can't or won't pay it.
Yeah. And that's important. Can't could be we don't have the money. We can't field a full roster. I can't give all that money to him. That was more succinct than what I was coming up with. Won't would be that, well, we could because we've got that much money, but we're not giving all of it to him because he's not worth it.
Which is why I bring up the Bill Self part because I think it's a little bit, you know, to hear Bill Self just gush over him all year. Mm-hmm. I'm of the opinion that... I'm not going to say good riddance. I think he was a fine player. That's not my point. But I am of the opinion that the offense sucked. Okay, and he was there. I mean, I'm always a big believer in, hey, we sucked with you.
We can suck without you. Yeah. All right? And by Kansas standards, we're talking about, you know, sucking. Trust me, at Syracuse, we dream of getting to the Kansas level. You know, it would be extraordinary. Of disappointment after winning tournament games. Yeah, like, oh, you know, it's been three years since we won a league title. This is outrageous. Haven't been to the Final Four since 22.
But I... Like, he's not a back-to-the-basket scorer. No. You know, he would score off athleticism if he could get close enough to dunk it. He would dunk it. If he'd get close enough to literally, and I mean literally, throw the ball at the back of the rim, where it was hopefully on enough of a downward trajectory that it would then immediately bang down through the net, he would do that.
But, like, actually pivot and turn. You know, he finished second in blocked shots to the kid at Michigan. But that kid you watched with a drop step and a jump hook and was a skilled post scorer as well. And I think it's going to be really interesting to see what Kansas does feel. First of all, are they amassing a war chest to pay Tyron Stokes? And then is he worth it?
We're not getting, he's the number one player, but are you hearing as much hype around him as we did the DeBansa? No. And Darren Peterson? No. No, not close. You know, not even here in the same kind of hype we heard around Andrew Wiggins. Right. I'm trying to think any other one ones that Kansas landed or number one overall recruits that they've landed in the Bill Self era.
