Chapter 1: What are the Royals' plans moving forward?
Around here we show up for one another. We want the same for our health insurance. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City gets that because they're from here too. It's coverage from folks who know these roads and care enough to walk them with you. That's the benefit of blue.
You are listening live to the program, your teams, your town, your program.
And there's a drive into deep left field, and Lane Thomas has two home runs against Richardson, and that one is worth four. Bam. Drilled to center field, and Dunn is back. He's all the way back, and that's gone. Jack Caglione gives the Royals a 6-1 lead in the fifth inning. And Massey pulls it deep to right field and gone.
So Michael Massey in back-to-back games has both a bunch single and a home run. And now, wondering who the heck the two guys are sitting in front of him, Seren Petro. Right you are, Kay. Right you are. Petro on the program on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Thank you for joining us here on what is going to be a steamy Tuesday. Enjoy it. It's not quite as bad as it was.
We were looking at it when we were getting ready to come home yesterday, and there was a stretch. I don't know where it started, but it was 10 straight days that it was either rain or thunderstorms. Here. It's gotten a little bit better. It's like holding off a day, ending a day sooner, and there's one day that doesn't have rain, but it's like rain every day. I'm like, wow. 82, heat index 96.
Doesn't feel that bad outside to me. If there's a little bit of wind, it's okay. That's not the case right now.

Chapter 2: How do the recent trades of Myles Garrett and AJ Brown impact the Chiefs?
It's pretty still. Yeah. All right. Well, we'll see. It is June. I mean, we talk about this usually later in the year. It's like if it's August 2nd, not as bad. We're barreling into the official summer for most of us once the kids are out. That's summer. Yeah. But here we sit. Here we sit. Who the hell are you? At least it's just some guy. I'm just some blanking guy.
I listened to the 810 app, man. I'm telling you. That thing is awesome. It's the way to go. It is so easy.
Chapter 3: What is the current state of the Royals' performance?
I can tell you that it works up and down the highways of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. I can tell you that right now. It worked like a charm because I heard a lot of the station over the last eight nights. Clemson? The hat? Yeah. I was going purple, orange. It's the baseball hat. Looks cool. On the back, it's a little bit easier.
It's got the tiger, and he's wearing a hat that says Clemson. Oh, okay. Yeah. That makes it easier to figure out. Here, this one's for Tommy Moe. We'll wear it this way because Tommy gets a big stick in his rear end. I got it straight. I got to look up at the camera. There it is. There it is. We'll go backwards just to be that guy. Just to be that guy. That's right.
You can be over 50 and wear your hat backwards, people. All you got to do is watch the stream and you'll see a guy who can do it. There it is. Not saying I'll do it all show. But I can wear my hat backwards with the best of them. One of my favorite pictures is a guy at a baseball game. Hat backwards. Yeah. Holding his hand up to shade his eyes. Looks like he's in the right field seats.
Looks like if you were in the right field seats at the K. Yeah. For, you know, first inning of a 7, a 640 start. And the best is usually it comes with a caption that says, if only they had an invention that would help with this.
Yeah.
I would agree. I have a rather extensive hat collection. Yes, you do. It's very impressive. This is just a lot of hats. It's quality stuff. I added to it. You know what I don't have, though? You generally don't buy crab hats. No. Your taste in hats is pretty good. One of our friends, by the way, I'll tell you, this Clemson hat, you know where it was purchased?
Rally House in Clemson, South Carolina.

Chapter 4: What are the challenges faced by the Chiefs this season?
Nice. Yeah. What's their song? Clemson, South Carolina, and something. Clemson, South Carolina, the Panthers. The Panthers make Carolina great. The Carolinas great. I don't know, they kind of blend those two. Carolina gets thrown around a lot for two different states, and it's like, oh, okay, should we just call it Carolina and cut out the line in between?
Yeah, but... Is there a big turf war along the border like there is here in Kansas? The Northerners and the Southerners mix it up? I didn't notice that. I noticed... I noticed more... I notice that South Carolina, the Gamecocks have more of a thing for Clemson than Clemson seems to have for South Carolina. That's... We did a college tour is what we were doing. That's a common dynamic.
If people didn't... I don't know. People don't know what the hell I'm talking... What the hell are you talking about? Well, that's where we went on... And then we went to Charleston, which is a lovely place. Yes. And we were on the beach for a few days there after we toured Georgia, Clemson, and South Carolina. Nice. So, yeah. Clemson. Clemson. Let me tell you where Clemson is.
It's right next to nothing. Okay? If you can picture... nowhere, then put a lake and then build a college that every building looks like it's no more than 10 years old, you've found Clemson. There it is. There it is. Did you walk around going, is that good? Is that good? I'm just asking. Is that good? Just walk into like a restaurant, just point at people's plates. Is that good? Is that good?
I'm just asking. Is that good? I can go somewhere else. Is that good? Yeah, point at their items on the board behind them. Is that good? Is that good? Is that good? I'm just asking. I mean, I can go somewhere else and eat.

Chapter 5: How does the Chiefs' offense compare to previous years?
Didn't see Dabo Sweeney. But I am not kidding you. You're like, you look at your GPS and it says 1.1 miles away and you're like, you're kidding. Like, there's like the mailboxes down by the road type of houses. And then, oh. There it is. Wow. Okay. That'll be dark. I mean, it is. I'm sure if I went out, because when I went out, when we left to go, we went there after Georgia.
You can do Georgia and Clemson in the same day. But then we left to go to Columbia, South Carolina, leaving Clemson. And you did see more of like civilization. But you come into the one side of campus, you are like, it is literally... I mean, nothing. Nothing. Wow. You're like, I cannot believe that a university is here. And their visitor center is down on one side of campus. Beautiful building.
Like I said, everything on that campus feels like it's only 10 years old. It didn't become a university until 1960-something. So it was just a college. Until then, and it looks like everything's been built pretty recently, but all of a sudden you turn and like, okay, here's this golf course, and then here's this visitor center, and here's this pretty lake. The whole campus backs up to this lake.
It says here on the Clemson Wikipedia page that the Princeton Review cited the town of Clemson as ranking number one in the U.S. for... what's called town and gown relations with its resident university. The town is the community that doesn't go to school, and the gown is the ones that do. The number one relationship when both are in the same community. Is that not good? There you go.
Is that not good? There you go. I get the vibe that Clemson is the town of Clemson is maybe like ā you know, I don't want to say fairway because that's like right in the middle of, you know, or Lee's Summit, you know, maybe like Oak Grove. It's like the edge of... It's in two different counties. Is it? Yeah. Okay. Pickens and Anderson counties. Okay. Well, we didn't hang around long. Yeah.
We tried to check out the local flora and fauna. It was the middle one of the tour, so... You know, it got the least amount of time for the Petros actually boots on ground. But, yeah, I liked that. You know, it was fun.

Chapter 6: What adjustments are needed for Patrick Mahomes' playing style?
I liked the stadium. Pretty impressive. Run down the hill. Did you run down the hill? I did. And Fatty fell down and went, boom. It was not pretty. It was not pretty. They don't like it, either. They were chasing me, and that was part of it. Big crash and tumbling down the hill. It wasn't good. It was not good. Gravity is a problem when you're not small. Yeah. So, anyway.
But, yes, good to be back home in Kansas City. And a lot to get to. The Royals. I don't know. I posted last night on Twitter. I said, I don't know, guys. I'm starting to feel pretty good about this team after tonight. I think they might be about to get back in it. Because I knew I would just get endless eye rolls.
Yeah, David Lesky and I did our Kauffman Corner podcast a day late because I was like, we'll just wait until I get home on Monday. And then for a little bit, I get a little 45 minutes on the tarmac. I'm like, we're not going to do the podcast tonight. But we finally got off the ground. And we're too late. But, you know, I don't know.
Like, you know, you get the, at least how I consume the Royals is through the MLB app. So I can watch them wherever. And, man, I'm like, I ain't going to work tomorrow. Why am I doing this to myself? Like, I don't have to watch this. I can watch something else. And I'll say this. I know Sean wants to talk Chiefs. Tommy wants to talk Chiefs. And I'd like to talk some Miles Garrett and A.J. Brown.
And is there a way to unravel a path where the Chiefs could have been or should they have been going after either one of these players with the cost that each of them ended up costing the teams that got them? I do want to talk about that, so you can grab a phone line right now. Chiefs Royals Sporting, Missouri K-State KU. Always a topic here on the program, 913-3810-810.
If you want to grab a line, you can hit me up on the Twitter. It's at Soren Petro, S-O-R-E-N-P-E-T-R-O. But just real quick on the Royals, I mean, I just... It obviously has gone wrong. I mean, last night was nice.

Chapter 7: What is the significance of the Chiefs' upcoming schedule?
I like to see them win whenever they can. But I will say that... Going into last night, they had a negative 52 run differential. And that was second worst in baseball behind only the Rockies. And it was June 1. So you had passed the 40-game mark. You had passed Memorial Day. And you had arrived at June 1. Whatever the, well, this is where you know what you are. You know what you are.
OK, and I just my hope now is that disappointing seasons happen. And when you're a small market team, your margin for error is always going to be less. And this can happen. My hope is that they are seeing what's looking back at them in the mirror. Right. And I think that's going to be really important and are accepting what they're seeing. Yeah.
I mean, I think a lot of people, you know, I talk about like, oh, suck in my gut. I'm not fat. No, no, no. No, you're a tub of goo, okay? Don't let that sucking in your gut or turning just the right way in your all-black running suit make you think you're slim, fatty. Cropping your pictures. Get your fat ass to the gym, okay? That's, you know, the triple chin there is all you need.
That's great that you've blended into the black background and you're, you know, your champion old-school fleece... Black hoodie and black sweats and, oh, I don't look that bad. No, you're a fat ass. Yes. Don't fool yourself. The all-black outfit did not fool that chair that collapsed. As I heard someone say. Or the seatbelt extender you asked the stewardess for getting on the plane. Like, no.
As I heard someone in the comics say one time, it doesn't fool anyone. The black doesn't make you look thinner. It makes it look like night grew ahead. So I do think it's really important for the Royals to, you know, that's my takeaway is like, I mean, the baseball gods, the baseball season was telling you you're not deep enough.
And the players that you have, my opinion is, and listen, they have, what are they at now? What's the record now? 23 and 37. Last night was game 60. 23-37, so they have 102 games to rewrite this. But what the mirror says to me is not only is this season lost, but the foundation is not good enough. This is not a team that needs just some...
You know, we're not, this isn't, who is the Bob, the curly haired guy who painted his happy clouds? Oh, Bob Ross. Bob Ross. Yeah. We don't just need to put the happy clouds in.

Chapter 8: What are the expectations for the Chiefs in the coming season?
Yeah. Okay. Happy little tree. Yeah. Oh, maybe there's a little snow on the edges of the leaves. No, no, no. We're, no. No. This is like, what are those three triangles he just painted on there? Like, you've got to strip down to the foundation. There's some foundational issues here. And I think they have to be realistic about that. Like, I'll just give you one example. Like, Mikel Garcia.
That contract, it's fine. It's not great anymore. It was great last year, it felt like. But it's not great because he's a 700 OPS third baseman right now. Right? He's Cabrian Hayes. And I'm sure there are people out there who are going, wait a minute, I've got to look that up. Yeah, exactly. Which is what the statement is about. Which is about. He's an all-defense third baseman.
And a great defensive third baseman. But that's it. And Michael Garcia is, you know, we've seen the potential. Brian Hayes had five seconds where he hit two. But my point simply is that... If I were to look at this team and say, OK, here's what they are, Bobby Wood Jr. is a star. He's batting, too. He should be batting, too.
He's arguably the best all-around player in baseball right now, barring Shohei Otani, who pitches, too. But I think he's a better defender at shortstop than Shohei Otani ever was in the outfield. So he's the best all-around baseball player, and he's a worthy No. 2 hitter for any team in baseball.
But you look at the rest of their lineup, Vinny Pascantino, wrapping this around, I think he's going to hit better. I still think he's going to hit better this year. I think he'll get it going. I think he's a better hitter than this. But this is part of who he is as well. He's a five-hitter, not a three-hitter. And Mikel Garcia is not a leadoff hitter. Mikel Garcia is like a six-hitter.
So, yeah, you've got first, short, and third taken care of. But you don't have one, two, and three in your lineup the way that they've been batting them. It's clear that they're not good enough. That lineup has produced the 28th, 29th, 30th best offense in baseball. I think they're 28th in run score, but 29th in runs per game. And by the way, just one more note. I'm looking at Vinny's numbers.
He has all of two seasons in his career. He's 28 years old and has two seasons in which he had more than 10 home runs and 26 RBIs. It isn't like he's got a slew of 25 and 95. And that's the same thing about Mikel Garcia. You want to know what Mikel Garcia is? Go shop him and see what you're offered. And then you'll know what he is. And you know who will be interested in him?
Nobody is looking at him going, that's my answer at third base. That's great that he won a gold glove. You want to know why he won a gold glove? Because he's a shortstop playing third. The teams that will have interest will be the teams that are like, okay, that bat's not good enough for us to play at third base, but the glove is good enough to play short, and then that bat ā
stands a lot better at short than it does at third. And then they'll find that he's not as good a shortstop defensively as he was a third baseman, probably. Probably, yeah. His value as a glove drops as his back increases. But I think he'd be a very good shortstop. And I think there's value there. And that's where I think the Royals...
