He also has a name that does not. He's Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest on the program.
Matt. How are you, buddy?
I am almost recovered from the draft.
Oh, really? You better get your crap together because we got OTAs and minicamp.

Chapter 2: What insights does Matt Derrick share about the Chiefs' draft class?
Wait. Did the podcast. Took a nap. Got up, had lunch.
The nap is awesome.
Took a nap.
I love the nap.
I feel like I slept like 16 hours yesterday, which the problem was then last night, well, this morning, I slept like two.
Yeah, that's... Yeah. I never can get things straight on the weekends.
Well, you got to get going. Got to get going. Because we're off and running. I mean, we've got players coming in and... You know. Got a lot of stuff going on. It's go time.
It is definitely go time.
It's go time with these Kansas City Chiefs. What do you... What grade are you giving the Chiefs?

Chapter 3: What expectations are set for the Chiefs' upcoming OTAs and minicamp?
All right. You want to do that?
I can do it. Let's do it, baby.
Okay, let's start with Mansour Delane. What's the best case? I mean... And this is within reason. We're not just going to go, he's Deion Sanders plus, you know. I know what the best who ever played all the positions. We're not going to go quite there.
Deion times Daryl Green.
Yeah. With the working knowledge of the players they've drafted, what do we what do we think the best case scenario is?
I mean, in your next four to five years of team control, I would say a couple of pro bowls would be nice. Even all pro nomination would be nice. Just being considered one of, I think, like the top half dozen corners in the league. I think would be your expectation for drafting a guy like that, especially a guy that seems to fit your defense really, really well and they like.
So I'm not saying he has to be Derek Stingley and Sauce Gardner, but I think he needs to be in at least that next tier right below them.
Listen, if he's just pretty good and they win a Super Bowl, no one's going to care. Right. The Kadarius Toney, if they never won a championship, we would still be fielding calls about the wasted third-round pick on Kadarius Toney. But because he was part of a Super Bowl championship and had a couple of plays in the run to it, nobody ever complains about that, right?
And this will be the same thing here. But when you give up 9, 74, and 148... I think he does have to be Sauce Gardner. I think he does have to be Stingley. I mean, I think he's got to be one of the best corners in football. I mean, you know, I could see the path to why he wouldn't be because we talked about it again last hour. There was no plan B. At corner. I mean, you agree?

Chapter 4: How does Matt Derrick grade the Chiefs' draft performance?
He's not Aaron Donald. He's Aaron Donald-y.
Aaron Donald-y, which is usually a diet Aaron Donald.
I don't know if... Aaron Donald light. And how much of a diet, because, I mean... Yeah, I mean... My kind of diet, Aaron Donald, yeah, that's probably pretty good, because you're just basically the same thing.
Yeah, you know, later we're probably going to talk about a guy that I think you're hoping is going to be Shamari Connors 2.0, but in this case, yeah, I don't know what you do when the 2.0 is not as good as the original. I mean, it can't be Aaron Donald 2.0, because... Yeah, that's why I say diet. Yeah, I mean, maybe it's like Windows 98. Was that the one that stung?
I mean... I can't think I've been I've been out of the windows game for a number of years now. Same.
Good reason. I mean, and the better word for it would probably be that you're hoping he's Chris Jonesy because he's not going to be. I don't think he's going to be Chris Jones. I don't think he's going to go out there necessarily have like 15 and a half sacks some year. But you're hoping that he is the heir apparent to Chris Jones. He's not the... That he's the guy that can be your three-tack.
He can be your interior pass rusher when Chris moves on. And right now, he's a guy that you can leave inside when you kick Chris Jones out on third downs. And that was the thing that Ryan Nutt mentioned today that I thought was my big takeaway from what they did on the defensive line, period. But... Peter Woods fits in a big part of this.
I mean, their third down performance last year was abysmal. I mean, it cost them easily three wins.

Chapter 5: What best and worst case scenarios are discussed for drafted players?
I mean, you could say that the reason why they were as bad as they were last year in 6-11. I mean, and they had the one against the Chargers in week one. They had the one against the Owls. There was another one, too. There was one at home that they gave up that was just absolutely atrocious. Get those three third down conversions that were all like third and 15s that you should not be giving up.
And this team, like I said, I mean, that was three wins that easily they lost on third downs last year.
Byron Murphy might be more my comp. I mean, just to go with like the more, you know, not linear, not a long 6'6", you know, the 6'2", 6'1", quick, you know, is doing it off quicks and those kind of things. I mean, that's, you know, what he did for the Seahawks, I think could be there. I think there's a lot of this draft that could allow, like, if they can be good drafts,
they allow other pieces to shine. They allow other things to fit better. If Canaday can be a nickel corner, and by nickel I mean not your best corner, I mean the guy who's your... you know, third corner and comes in and play him wherever you want to play him. And Shamari Connor can go play safety and not be asked to cover wide receivers.
And so that your starting safeties can be Shamari Connor and Eloy Gilman.
So teams don't come out of the huddle in the worst 27.
Yeah. I mean, then it's like, okay, I think Shamari Conner's toughness and ability to tackle and then just covering when you're trying to change things up and not being part of the coverage plan, I think that makes the defense better. If Peter Woods can force teams to not be able to block a guy with one shoulder, You know, they've got to be like, OK, he's he's he's offset.
So we're both guys have got to get a punch on him first before we go attend to other business. Everything else looks better. I mean, less double teams for Chris Jones. If if our Mason Thomas can force you to say, well, we've got to put the tackle on him. We can't just chip with the tight end or leave the tight end tight end on him one on one. We have to account for this guy.
And now you've fanned the protection from tackle to tackle. It's now the running backs trying to pick up things on the inside. Well, now any Spagnuolo blitzes gets better. It gets harder to double team Chris Jones. Now you're double teaming Chris Jones. You're taking a guard off. And now there's a wide open gap to blitz through for a Nick Bolton blitz or a safety blitz.

Chapter 6: What is Peter Woods' potential impact on the Chiefs' defense?
Yeah, but to your point, you just rattled off all these other edges that were there.
Yeah.
I mean, that was... I mean, in a lot of ways, it appears that they played the board correctly. Yeah. You know, they went to de-tackle because they didn't necessarily like the other de-tackles. And there were a number of them, but they got the guy that, you know, they keep talking about Woods pass rushing. I mean, so they, like, the Ohio State, Caden... Oh, Ohio State.
Where is he? McDonald? McDonald.
Yeah, Caden McDonald. I mean, there's no pass rush there. You know, a lot of those defensive tackles we were talking about, nobody really... You're not thinking pass rush. You're thinking more like, OK, the league's going to a run defense. This is a big road grader to start or going to a running on offense. This is a big road grader that's going to help us stop the run on defense.
They seem to have attacking the quarterback in mind. And so they took the one guy that seems to fit that bill. Yeah. And then there were lots of edges to choose from. They just need to get it right with this one.
Yeah. And I know that there were I'm sure there were. Everyone talked about the possible character issues with Zion Young, and I'm sure there were Chiefs fans that would hear that and go, now that's a concern? I mean, this guy's a game changer.
I'm with you. Zion Young, to me, looked like the pick. I mean, we were all sitting there. It's funny because we took him at 29 last week. We did.
Yeah. We were, Serena and I and two other people were watching this, and I was looking at, I was going to get it early. When Chiefs are up, don't tell me what it is.
