Chapter 1: What is the Isdal Woman case about?
Hi, I'm Julia Cowley, a retired FBI profiler and host of the True Crime podcast, The Consult, Real FBI Profilers. If you're fascinated with true crime and criminal profiling, then join us as we discuss real cases and examine the behavior exhibited before, during, and after the commission of the crime. You can listen to The Consult wherever you get your podcasts.
It's as close as it gets to being in the room with the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit.
I'm Brett.
And I'm Alice.
And we are The Prosecutors. Today on The Prosecutors, we dive deeper into the death of the Isdale woman. Hello, everybody, and welcome to this episode of The Prosecutors. I'm Brett, and I'm joined, as always, by my praktisch co-host, Alice.
Hi, Brett. Praktisch. Okay. You guys did not see how long he practiced this word. I have no idea what it means, but I love it. It sounds amazing.
I'm actually not sure what it means either, because I've kind of lost that. I think I accidentally went away from that. So it's... It is, I have it down as Belgian, but I don't even know if Belgian is a word. Is Belgian a word? Are Belgian a language? Or is Belgian just like German? Or Dutch?
I think it's Dutch. They speak Belgian?
Is that like a unique language? They don't speak Belgian.

Chapter 2: What were the circumstances surrounding the Isdal Woman's death?
But guess what?
They don't close.
Ask me if they're installed right now.
Are they installed right now?
They're not installed. Why? Why, Alice, are they not installed?
Why, Alice, are they not installed?
Because after waiting for more than two months, they arrived. And the man who was going to install them, such a nice man, such a nice man, not his fault. He walks in. He's like, I'm so sorry. You've been waiting for so long. I'm here to install them. I'm like, please, by all means, go for it. And he starts installing and he comes over and he's like, I'm so sorry. I cannot install them.
And I'm like, why can you not install these doors I've waited for two months for? And he said, they sent me the wrong door. And I said, singular door, because there's two doors. Correct. One of them is four inches too short. And I was like, so like, did you leave the other door at the shop or did they just make the wrong door? And he's like, I'm going to try to figure that out.
So he called the doormaker. They made one door correctly. The other door looks like the other door, but it's four inches too short. So whoever measured did not measure twice, cut once. They just didn't measure and they cut. And now I have to wait who knows how long for doors.

So a couple things. Number one, obviously a traveler. She's got stuff from Rome. She's got stuff from Paris. She's got stuff from a store in Norway, which is not that surprising. The fingerprint on the sunglasses was hers. That's how they knew for certain these were her bags because that fingerprint matched hers. Oh, and Germany. She's got Germany as well.
And I also think this is indicative of her actually going to these places because, once again, this is 1970. It's not now where you might have, you know, stuff from Paris that you bought in Atlanta, right? But at the time, I think if you had stuff from Roma, you probably got it from Rome. So that's not it. It goes on. Silver embossed spoons with a monogram removed. So she had a whole set.
Now, she only had one with her. when she died, but she had the rest in her suitcase.
And very interesting, the rest of what we've read so far, I think I would expect of a traveler, clothes, different types of shoes. Interesting to carry around like a set of silver spoons, maybe one if you're just traveling for a bit, but this may indicate to me that she maybe doesn't have a home. She's carrying with her the things that matter to her.
What do you make of the fact that she had this pair of glasses with non-prescription lenses? Does that say anything to you?
Oh, you know what? I had read that dark brown frame as in they were sunglasses, which I didn't find weird, but that they're not. It suggests to me, this is based on other information we're going to know later, that she may like to be a little bit of an international woman of mystery to change her appearance with glasses. So alone, eh.

Chapter 4: How did the police investigate the Isdal Woman's identity?
He looked like he was in his 20s, but he wasn't in his 20s. He was in his late 30s. He actually was the guy that he said he was. And he just didn't have any idea with him for some reason that day. And so then, you know, and they were all like, what should we do with this guy? And we're like, well, what do you mean? What should we do? We got to release him. It's not him. Poor guy.
We released him and had to go find the right guy.
Why did they think it was him, though? Did he live at the same address?
Because he was at the place that they had been told by the informant that the guy would be at the time. And so he shows up at that place at the time.
Some dude totally set him up, man.
They look at him, they're like... Okay, he matches the description. Same age, same race, same height, same body type, everything. They go up to him. He doesn't have ID. Likely story. He says he's some guy who's 20 years older than he is. Likely story. Yeah, it turns out it was him.
He should sell some skin care.
So that was kind of embarrassing.
That's horrible. But these things happen, you know. I'm impressed you didn't get slapped with a civil rights suit.
