What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

Marina Hyde 0:00
The rest is entertainment is presented by Octopus Energy. Now, traditionally the entertainment gatekeepers had to find you before an audience ever could.
Richard Osman 0:08
It's been the biggest change really, I would say, in entertainment in the last five years or so. Just that generation who grew up making their own content on YouTube, on TikTok and things like that, suddenly finding themselves right at the heart of uh of a culture and they say no one had to commission it from them.
Marina Hyde 0:22
Well, we talked before about Kane Parsons for backrooms. He just made his incredible sort of YouTube series of shorts. And within a month they'd gone so big that people were kind of battering down his door to direct a big movie version of it. And A24 eventually won and he created the backrooms, which brought a huge audience online for that first weekend that was just a phenomenon. So by the time the traditional gatekeepers arrive, you may have already proved there's an audience for what you've made. You haven't inherited a routine, you have built one yourself.
Richard Osman 0:52
And Octopus came into energy with customers as the starting point. It saw they weren't being well served and built things differently from there, with each account looked after by the same small team of around ten Octopus Energy specialists.

Mm-hmm. Hello and welcome to this episode of the Rest is Entertainment Questions and Answers Edition. I'm Marina Hine.
Richard Osman 1:17
And I am Richard Osman. Hello everyone. Hi Marina.
Marina Hyde 1:19
Hello Richard. How are you?
Richard Osman 1:21
Yeah, I'm not bad. Ready for some questions, I'll say that. You ready for some questions?
Marina Hyde 1:24
Hit me. Hit me with a question.
Richard Osman 1:26
Ever been readier?
Marina Hyde 1:27
I've never been I was born ready.
Richard Osman 1:29
So you have been ready. Well, you you've always remained the same amount of ready.
Marina Hyde 1:33
Yeah.
Richard Osman 1:34
Okay. Even when sleeping?
Marina Hyde 1:36
Oh yeah, I don't sleep, I wait, like Chuck Norris.
Richard Osman 1:39
That is true, actually. I'm not entirely sure that you do sleep. No, not really. I said before I said before if I have a message on my phone at four AM, I know who it's from. Um I waited a
Marina Hyde 1:47
long time to send you one this morning.
Richard Osman 1:50
And
Marina Hyde 1:50
really really long. And it was still for four six, I think.
Richard Osman 1:55
I have a question for you that I think you'll like from Ali Olsen. She says, I've seen Taylor Swift's new haircut. It's now shoulder length, reported in a ludicrous number of tabloids recently. Is this just Swift Mania and is most boring? Or her previous celeb haircuts caused a similar storm?
Marina Hyde 2:09
Oh my god, Ali, it's not even the biggest hair hair story of the week. First of all, yeah, she's got some sort of bangs, as they call it. She's done something different with the fringe.
Richard Osman 2:17
I never really know what bangs are. I hear about them on on a lot of uh American dramas.
Marina Hyde 2:22
It's American for fringe, I think.
Richard Osman 2:23
Then now I do know.
Marina Hyde 2:24
Now you do. But the big story is surely the two mega buzz cuts. One, Erling Haaland's buzzcut. And two, I hate talking about him. It's Connor's story from Heated Rivalry for season two, and he's got a buzzcut. This has caused a lot of outrage. A lot of people are like, I loved his hair before. Don't be stupid. He's gonna look just as good with this hair in all the ten minute sex scenes. So don't worry about it. But yes, hair c celebrity haircuts are big. But a Beckham's haircut was the front page of the sun if he got a new one and he had so many different ones. The other day I was read reading that part of the issue at the um the Brook the fate the fateful Brooklyn and Nicola wedding was that a lot of David's speech they um they he talked about what haircuts he had at certain times during the like yeah.
Marina Hyde 3:09
My I would over no, I mean we've talked about my father in law's speech at my My favorite. wedding before, but yeah, that that had a lot of what car he was driving.

What is the format of the Rest Is Entertainment Q&A episode?

Richard Osman 3:18
Do please remind us for for pod newcomers.
Marina Hyde 3:21
For pod newcomers, uh well it began with the talking about my husband saying, Oh, you know, I'm really glad that this person who was there is here because actually we were we're gonna have an abortion but he it's great but we didn't. And what happens and then oh, I wanted to be at your birth, but um I was doing acid and driving round the canyons in LA.
