The Ringer-Verse
‘Saros’ Review, ‘Resident Evil’ Trailer Reactions, and a Recent Release Roundup | Button Mash
01 May 2026
Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Hi, everyone.
Chapter 2: What upcoming games and video game movies are discussed?
It's Amy Poehler, and I'm launching a new podcast called Good Hang. In preparation for that, I asked some of my friends to send in some videos and give me some advice.
Just be yourself, and the guests will come. Don't be the celebrity that this is their, like, sixth thing they're doing.
I love true crime and cooking podcasts. Is there any way you could combine the two? Well, everyone has an opinion and a podcast. So join me for Good Hang. It's rough out there. We're just trying to lighten it up a little.
Chapter 3: What are the reactions to the 'Resident Evil' teaser?
Hello and welcome into The Ringerverse, your Nexus feed for all things fandom. I am Ben Lindberg, Senior Editor at The Ringer and Lead Enforcer at Button Mesh, where, much like the protagonist of Sorrows, we do the same thing over and over, record podcasts while we gradually lose our minds. We're also talking about a three-on-three tag fighting game, Invincible Versus, today.
And I am tagging in two co-hosts to help me on this podcast. Steve Allman and Matt James are with me today. Hello, boys. Yo. Yo. No time for clever puns. We have so much to get to. So much news.
Chapter 4: How does Microsoft’s Game Pass price cut affect gamers?
Shocking. So many games. We're going to begin with a patch notes, our usual installment of video game news. And we have a trio of news items, which will begin with a trio of recent release date reveals for games and release date reveals for upcoming adaptations, video game movies, specifically.
So let's start with the release dates before we get to the games that are actually out that we will be talking about today. Headlined by the aforementioned Soros and Invincible Versus, but also others.
Chapter 5: What are the main points of the 'Saros' review?
But what is coming up next after Invincible Versus and Vampire Crawlers and Tides of Tomorrow and Ophelion and Soros? Well, Black Flag Resynced. The Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake is coming on July 9th. Splatoon Raiders is coming on July 23rd. And Star Wars Galactic Racer is coming on October 6th. We knew about all these games, but we did not know when we would have our hands on them.
Now we do. Matt, of those three, which are you most excited for? Galactic Racer.
Hell yeah, buddy. Yeah. Let's go. That game looks great. It does. I haven't played Black Flag before. Oh, perfect. I know a lot of people who regard that as one of the top three Assassin's Creed games of all time. And from some of the preview stuff I've checked out, it looks enticing. So I'm also looking forward to that as well. And you hate Splatoon writers.
Splatoon, unlike the entire country of Japan, has never really done much for me. Wow.
Wow, wow, wow.

Chapter 6: What are the thoughts on the 'Battlefield' movie and its implications?
Wait, now did you just say that the entire country of Japan does nothing for you or that Splatoon does a lot for the entire country of Japan?
Splatoon does a lot for the entire country of Japan.
Just to clarify. Okay, all right, wow.
I was going to say, Matt takes all the heat off of me for this episode.
Chapter 7: What games are featured in the 'Mash or Pass' segment?
Yeah. Syntax is important.
Syntax is important. I also love the country of Japan more than Splatoon by a wide margin. Just to be entirely transparent.
Well, you know that Splatoon comes from Japan. So that's one thing you could love about it. It's massive over there. Yes, it is.
It does numbers over there. And I... don't really get it per se. It's fine. It's good. I think perhaps the single player kind of thing that they're going for here might appeal to me a bit more.
So there's that. I'll happily give it a shot. Steve, you in the Galactic Racer camp too?
I'm very much in the Galactic Racer camp.

Chapter 8: What are the final thoughts on recent game releases and trends?
Anything that gets me closer to reliving my burnout days will exactly set my heart ablaze. I'm so, so excited for what that game has to offer. And I think that it's going to scratch a very particular itch that I didn't even know I had for many years that was absent. I am neither a kid now nor a squid now, so I don't think that this game is going to be that appealing to me as well.
I won't even come close to dissing the entire country of Japan for it. I don't know. I think Splatoon is kind of just like... It insists upon itself in a way that I'm just like, wow, we're really trying to still make this happen, huh? Like it doesn't. Okay, great. Great. Happy for you guys.
Black Flag, I actually have played and we've had a lot of like comparison shots of like one to one of the original Black Flag versus this new re-synced version. And I did not remember Black Flag or the original looking like that. And that seems like a drastic graphical improvement only to make a game that I thought looked like that in the first place.
Yeah. Well, every video game remake looks like we remember the original looking. It's just that in our mind's eye, because it was cutting edge at the time that we played it and we thought it looked fantastic. And so that's how we remember it. And then we look back and say, oh, actually, it perhaps has not aged as well as we thought.
It was very much that game that had what I like to call the Skyrim sex dirt sheen from everybody. A little bit of a... Everybody just looked glossy and dirty.
Yeah. Dirt filter on top of everything. Yeah. Which appears to be somewhat removed for the remake. It has more of a traditional tropical pirate.
Yes. And they have removed some of the more modern day aspects of the original in keeping with the recent trajectory of Assassin's Creed, where we're just focusing on the history stuff, which is frankly probably not the worst decision because that is kind of the main draw.
I know that there are definitely some fans of the lore, the modern lore out there, but not as many perhaps as fans of the older stuff. And I am... Also excited for Galactic Racer, just reliving burnout days and also just racer days. I think this is interesting because we have very little clarity on the holiday window this year, thanks to GTA. As long as GTA 6 is holding steady at November 19th,
Everyone else is just kind of waiting to see if that stays solid and not really announcing dates. And you know that they're all going to be avoiding that date if it holds up. And so this is one of the first non-GTA tentpole titles for this holiday fall season that we have actually gotten a release date for. So...
