In this episode, we learn that she fell in love with the field of genetics during a biology class in high school. As we most African students who were gifted in Maths and science, she pursued medicine. Fortunately, that dream took a detour after being awarded a scholarship that paid for her A-Levels and allowed her to further pursue her studies abroad. She got into the field of medical genetics and has stayed until postgraduate level. Currently, Tumie is a PhD student in cancer genetics specializing in breast cancer detection at the University of Leicester. The focus is on developing biomarkers of breast cancer from exosomes. She tells us more about this very exciting research, and its importance. Tumie also tells us how she's adjusting to "the new normal," as some institutions have opened for scientists to get back lab-based work.Furthermore, we find out that Tumie has a YouTube channel called TumieTerry, where she vlogs on her lifestyle as well as the Science aspect to address the stereotypes that scientists are "boring."
