In 2008, Jimmy Lakey adopted his son, River, from a Rwandan orphanage at the age of 3. Before leaving the country to come home to America, he made a promise to take care of River's friends back in Rwanda. What started off as 'Jimmy's Orphan Project' went from taking care of a handful of orphan children into providing education, food and even homes for hundreds of orphans and widows in Rwanda as a registered non-profit called, River's Promise. River's Promise recently completed phase one of the school campus (Legacy Christian Academy) they are building. Legacy Christian Academy is the only building within miles to have electricity and running water and each student receives two meals a day there (for many, the only food they eat).
