This evening we'll be continuing the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. But before we do. Take a moment to let everything else drift away. Breathe in slowly through your nose. James Winderbank. He was only five years older than her. and strongly discouraged her from socializing. And about Hosma Angel. A quiet and mysterious man she had met. While Windebank. was away on business in Bordeaux. Mary and Hosma had quickly become devoted to one another. although Hosma would meet her only in the evenings, spoke in a whisper. War tinted glasses. And insisted that their correspondence only ever be handwritten, despite her access to a typewriter for work. Hosmer had persuaded Mary to promise that she would remain faithful whatever happened.
and the pair had arranged a hasty marriage. Yet on the way to the ceremony, Hosma entered a cab. and inexplicably vanished from it before reaching the church. Mary remained convinced that some unforeseen event had separated them. and had promised to wait for him. Holmes, however, had already formed a very different suspicion. After asking careful questions about Mary's family, Mrs. Herring comes. Her stepfather's occupation. And Hosmer's unusual behaviour. He advised her to put the matter behind her. Advice she firmly refused to follow. And that is where we pick up tonight. So just lie back and relax. As I turn to the next pages of A Case of Identity.
