What is the core connection between boundaries and self‑trust?
Welcome back to the Speaking of Wealth podcast. I'm Nicole, your host, and this episode is a continuation of the last episode on boundaries. So consider this a part two, and if you haven't listened to the episode before this, I would suggest to do that first. And what I want to share in this episode is the connection that boundaries have to self-trust. Self-trust is something that I feel like is not talked about as much as other beliefs or shifts to make when it comes to working on yourself, doing internal work, improving your life, but it is so very important. So my intention for today is that you have a new understanding of self-trust and maybe can identify some blind spots that you haven't quite been able to figure out what the problem is.
So what self-trust is, is it's believing that you will act in your own best interest, even when it feels tough, even when it feels uncomfortable. And it's more of a follow through with yourself than a feeling, I would say. It's knowing that I know what's best for myself and that being willing to choose yourself even when people feel otherwise, even when you're unsure of how something is going to play out, you're following your true north and you're unapologetic about it. That is solid self-trust. And the way that this is tied to boundaries is that boundaries are the structure for you to instill trust. that self-trust. And if you betray your own boundaries, if you betray those structures, that is where self-trust is then destroyed.
That's where you feel like you can't trust yourself or rely on yourself. Because anytime that you agree to something that you don't necessarily want to do, so you're like, I really want to do that, but I feel obligated, I'm going to say yes anyways. Anytime you stay quiet when you really want to speak up, Anytime you tolerate something that is unaligned or that's maybe really draining to you, what you're doing is telling yourself, my internal signals that are trying to communicate with me don't matter enough for me to act on it, okay? So that's really, really important because we all have this internal connection that your intuition, your communication system that is trying to tell you what is best for you.
So if you're not listening to that, you're essentially saying that I'm not important. This isn't important. Other people, external situations, circumstances are more important than myself. So boundaries, they are not about being rude. They're not about cutting people off. They are just proof that you will respond to those internal cues and do what you believe is in your best interest, what's best for you, okay? So things like, I'm not actually available for that. Ah, that doesn't work for me, right? That is choosing yourself. That is self-trust, okay? Why this is important for wealth creation is because if you don't trust yourself, and a lot of times we don't even realize we're not trusting ourselves, right?
If you don't trust yourself, okay, this leads to hesitating on decisions because you're going to question, you know, is this the right decision? Should I do this? Should I do that? You're going to be asking people, right? You're second guessing your prices, you're second guessing your offers, you're second guessing direction. And when you're second guessing, you're not taking action. You are spending more time living in this headspace than actually trusting that path and taking action. Because when you take action, that is going to lead to the things you want, lead to setting up a system, setting up a business to call in money. If you're not taking the action, then you're essentially derailing your success.
You're kind of pushing that back more and more. Another thing is that part of creating wealth is leadership. which requires self-trust and internal authority. This should be another podcast topic. Maybe I'll go into this on the next one. But wealth is difficult to build when your nervous system doesn't feel safe in your own leadership, right? So if you have to get visible, if you have to show up, if you have to lead
