Chapter 1: What is the chilling new thriller about?
For too long, Australian law didn't just fail survivors. It forced them into silence. Nina Fennell is a Walkley Award-winning journalist and a survivor who helped overturn damaging gag laws in the Australian justice system. She was the driving force behind the campaign that allowed women to finally speak their own names. Her work doesn't just tell stories, it drives change.
Hi, I'm Gemma Bath, host of True Crime Conversations. And this very special two-part episode isn't just about the justice system. It's about what happens when women are finally heard. A raw, honest look at the power of a single voice, how silence is shaped and how women push through it. Hear my conversation with Nina Fennell on True Crime Conversations.
Search True Crime Conversations wherever you get your podcasts or click the link in the show notes to hear Nina's story now. You're listening to a Mamma Mia podcast.
From Mamma Mia, welcome to The Spill, your daily pop culture fix. I'm Laura Brodnick. And I'm Em Burnham.
Chapter 2: Why couldn't Em finish the movie Apex?
And welcome to Weekend Watch. Weekend Watch. Where we talk about the best new TV shows and movies that have just dropped this week. Although this week we have two movie recommendations for you.
Two buzzy movie recommendations. Sorry, we need to correct that. We have a movie and a half recommendation. Okay.
I'm already off you for just saying that. A half recommendation? Yeah. Emily Therese Burnham, what do you mean?
Guys, I tried really hard. So the movie I'm recommending is called Apex. Yes.
Chapter 3: What themes does the movie Apex explore?
It is on Netflix and it stars Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton. This movie is a horror suspense movie in the wilderness. It is so scary I've only watched half of it.
Are you serious?
It's so scary.
Okay, but also I just want people to take that with a grain of salt because you're a scaredy cat.
I'm a scaredy cat. Like you're easily scared. I get easily scared. But this one just reached a whole new level. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's a type of horror that I am scared of, which I've only just established from watching this movie. Anyway, I'll let you know what the movie is about.
Yeah, please do.
So Charlize Theron plays... This happens in the first few minutes of the film, so I feel like I can say it.

Chapter 4: What makes the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada significant?
Yeah, say it. She's like an adrenaline junkie. Yeah. She loves rock climbing. She's like one of those daredevil kind of people. And both her and her partner are. In the early, early stages of the movie, so this is not a spoiler, they're climbing up this mountain... And he falls to his death.
Okay. Just so you know, every climbing adventure movie starts like that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It sets up her as a person.
Yeah, exactly. Every movie I've watched about people being like daredevil junkies climbing, blah, blah, blah. Yeah.
Chapter 5: How does the sequel connect to the original film?
Like Fall, that movie where they're on top of the tower and they have to climb up. Death at the start. Also, yeah. Every kind of climbing movie.
Because you have to figure out the main character's purpose.
Yeah. You need to know the stakes straight away because all of a sudden you're just like, this is so dangerous, people are going to die. And also, can I say, nothing is more terrifying than watching on screen someone accidentally fall to their death. Because you can feel it. I don't know if I get like my hands and toes freeze up.
I genuinely think it's a type of horror that I can't get around. Yeah. It is so scary because it's so real.
You're so worried that one day you might. And you famously don't love the outdoors.

Chapter 6: What are the standout performances in The Devil Wears Prada 2?
Exactly.
You don't love activities. You don't love anything that will put you at a great height.
I hate being outside. So why do you think. I hate nature.
Yeah. I know famously. Hate nature. Hate adventures. Yeah. So why do you think you'd find yourself in the situation that you would be climbing a great mountain or something?
I'll tell you why. Because this movie is set in the Blue Mountains. It's way too close to home.

Chapter 7: What criticisms are there about the sequel's plot?
And also, if she was doing it with her partner, you're like, of course, that's going to happen to you if you go on a date with someone. They're like, let's go climb a mountain. You're like, okay. Oh, God. You'll never catch me on a date with someone like that. Oh, see, I think it'll be a fun date.
I can immediately suss out on dating apps who the adrenaline junkies are and the men that I match with and it's immediate. I can't. Swipe past. Swipe past. I can't do it. I can't do it. I am not an adventurous woman.
So this is set in the Blue Mountains, right? And can I just say, we're only just getting over Australia's like PR problem of the whole Wolf Creek situation.
Chapter 8: How can fans engage with the podcast's Devil Wears Prada quiz?
Yeah. Where for years people were just like, because obviously that's based on a true story of a man in the outback who hunted and killed backpackers.
Exactly.
And those movies and the TV show are so gruesome.
Well, I think they learned from that. So it's not actually like mentioned that it is the Blue Mountains. Yeah. If they made up like some fictional like national park, but it... It's very clearly the Blue Mountains and we all know that they filmed in the Blue Mountains.
And people know it's in Australia.
Yes. Because Taryn Egerton has a very Bogan accent. Oh, of course. And it's a very well done Bogan accent, I must say.
We love a stereotype when it hits.
Yes.
Like when it works.
