A weak team can undermine even the strongest value proposition. 2. Five Reasons Companies Struggle to Find Great Employees Keeping poor performers because of personal relationships or loyalty. Hiring repeatedly from the same circle of recommendations. Refusing to admit that hiring mistakes may be coming from leadership. Hiring based solely on experience rather than adaptability. Believing there are no good candidates available. Rushion emphasizes that leadership must take responsibility for the quality of its hiring decisions. 3. Don't Build a Business on Hope Many businesses fail because they operate on optimism rather than planning. Rushion stresses the importance of having: A budget An accountant Human resources processes Clear hiring standards Successful businesses are built on systems, not wishes. 4. Be Willing to Let Employees Go One of the hardest responsibilities of leadership is termination. Rushion advises employers to: Be clear about performance expectations. Document problems. Communicate concerns early. Have witnesses present when necessary. The goal is not punishment but accountability. 5. Poor Customer Service Destroys Value Rushion shares a story about a restaurant where employees displayed poor attitudes, lacked preparation, and failed to serve customers properly. Use a 90-Day Probation Period Rushion believes a structured probation period helps protect both employer and employee. Key checkpoints include: 30 Days: Review performance and reinforce expectations. 60 Days: Evaluate progress and determine whether improvement is occurring. 90 Days: Decide whether the employee is a long-term fit for the organization.
