My name is Caleb Flynn. I'm from Tip City, Ohio. Thing that makes me unique, you know, I absolutely love the Lord. I love my wife more than anything. She is very, very pretty. Just, oof, I love her.
That was the voice of Caleb Flynn. He once stood before millions on American Idol describing himself as a worship pastor and declaring his love for his wife. Now, he's standing trial accused of her murder. In the early hours of February 16th earlier this year, Flynn called 911 saying an intruder had broken into their home, shot his wife Ashley and then fled. But investigators allege a very different version of events. They claimed there was no sign that an intruder had entered the house and claimed that Flynn had staged the scene to make Ashley Flynn's murder look like a burglary. Prosecutors say Flynn had exchanged more than 100,000 messages with a woman with whom he was having an affair. Some allegedly showed him expressing hatred towards Ashley and discussing ways in which he could kill her without going to prison or, as a Christian, going to hell.
But Caleb Flynn denies the charges against him. His defence doesn't deny that he was unfaithful, but argues that being a bad husband does not make him a murderer. They claim there is no evidence tying Flynn to the shooting and claim that investigators only accused Flynn of culpability after discovering the affair. Now, a jury in Miami County must decide whether Ashley Flynn was murdered by an unknown intruder or whether the burglary story was an elaborate attempt by her husband to conceal the killing. Welcome back to The Trial USA. I'm joined now by Natasha Anderson, who has been watching this trial unfold in Miami County Court. Thank you for joining us, Natasha.

First off, can you talk us through the two people at the centre of this case, Ashley Flynn and her accused murderer, Caleb Flynn?
Ashley Flynn is a mom of two, Caleb's wife of 15 years. They met at university, at Christian University. They fell in love. They were your typical American family. They had two daughters, two dogs, a nice house, good paying jobs. And from the outside, according to everyone who knew them and their friends and family, everything seemed like they had a perfect marriage.
What did Caleb Flynn tell police happened on the night of February 16th?
And obviously, Caleb was a star on American Idol. And like you said, there were no signs of trouble in their marriage from the outside looking in. It seemed like they had a perfect marriage. That obviously changed on February 16th of this year. Can you take us back to that night and explain what Caleb Flynn told police happened when Ashley was found dead?
Caleb Flynn told police that he and Ashley had gone to bed, kind of it sounded like a normal night. She noticed that he had a cough, so she asked him to sleep on the couch. All of a sudden, he wakes up. It's around 2.30, 3 in the morning.
