This is often how diuretics work, leading to dehydration. This can lead you to feeling fatigued, sluggish, and mentally foggy the next day. Mental fog is another immediate consequence.

And alcohol interferes with this process by converting it into something called acetyl aldehyde, which is a toxic substance that damages your liver and it harms your overall metabolism.
