What happened during the semester-long stalking by a classmate who accessed professor files?

Cam 0:00
Classmate from Hell My encounters with Andy lasted for a whole semester of college. I'm going to make this story a shorter version of the ordeal. Let me give you some backstory first. Andy and I were assigned to sit next to one another in class. We had no prior knowledge of each other's existence before that class. I had no interest in him romantically. he didn't exactly feel the same way. He gained access to our professor's student files and then began emailing me incessantly. At first, his emails were innocent. He'd ask me about homework and then attempted to make small talk with me after I replied. But I would ignore it because I didn't want our relationship to be anything but professional. As months passed, Andy would stop emailing me about homework and just started asking me about my emotional health.

He would tell me that I seemed distant and sad while in class. We never spoke in class. He preferred to stare into his blank computer monitor. And I knew that I was in a healthy emotional state. So I never bothered to reply to his emails. Despite the fact that I never replied to his emails, he would still send me at least three a day. Each one would say something different. He would ask how I was feeling about life, how I felt about him, about the class, etc. I had finally had enough. I told him that I had a boyfriend and that he didn't appreciate the constant string of emails that were coming my way. This feeble attempt to keep Andy at bay did the opposite. He would then email me questions about my relationship.

He was testing the validity of my, a complete stranger, love life. I was floored. So the next day, while we were in class, I told Andy to leave me alone. I flat said that I didn't want to see another email from him again. Andy just brushed off what I said and continued to email me. It was finally towards the end of the semester, so I was so happy with the fact that I was going to be free from Andy soon. Towards the end of the semester though, his emails became increasingly strange. He began to tell me, still without ever receiving a response from me, about how I remind him of his mother. Once I read that email, a chill ran down my spine. I had never spoken to this guy outside of academic context. He knew nothing other than my email and the fact that I had a boyfriend.

Yet he still claimed to know me. In the last weeks that led up to summer, Andy began to follow me to my car. He would talk to me from the three-foot distance that he kept behind me. I'd tell him that he needed to leave me alone. He'd even park his car near mine since we'd go to school at the same time. I had to start calling friends on the phone so that I'd know someone would be aware if he ever tried to hurt me while I was walking to my car. I don't know why, but I never thought of telling my professor. Maybe I was just embarrassed, and I kind of felt that since my professor was a man, he wouldn't understand what I was going through. During the first few weeks of summer, I'd still get emails from Andy.

I was unnerved slash relieved when I received my very last one. The very last email Andy sent me was strange, because he was apparently breaking up with me, because we had communication issues. I never replied to his last email, as I'd been doing to the many he'd sent before. I can't help but still be weirded out by the fact that this complete stranger had made up some sort of romantic relationship between the two of us. I'm praying that I never see him around campus again.

A stranger blended into our party for hours.

I live in a college city that is also near a lot of amusement parks and tourist areas. The cities on the outskirts have entire gated communities, filled with huge vacation rentals. Some of these houses are basically mansions with pools, game rooms, theaters, and more bedrooms than anybody would realistically need. A couple months ago, one of my friends rented one of those villas for the weekend and threw an end-of-semester party. It wasn't an open party posted online or anything like that.
