Rachel’s body was later found in a lake, bound and weighted down. Her daughter remains missing to this day. Marvin Gabrion was convicted of Rachel’s murder in 2002 and sentenced to death—a rare federal death penalty case in Michigan, a state without capital punishment. 2024 Update:In December 2024, President Joe Biden commuted Gabrion’s death sentence to life imprisonment without parole, along with 36 other federal inmates.
