True Crime with Rachel Shannon
THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO QUADRUPLE MURDERS: SUSPECT ARRESTED
21 Dec 2025
Chapter 1: What happened during the University of Idaho murders?
Hello everyone, my name is Rachel and welcome back to another true crime video. So the case that I have for you guys today will now be the third video that I've made on the University of Idaho killings. I made the first two videos to keep you all updated on how this case is moving forward. And now it seems that we finally have the answers that we've been looking for.
So of course, I wanted to keep you guys all updated on this very important update. But I also do want to mention that just like the first two videos that I made, I'm only going to be including information that I can confirm. I know there is a lot of talk on Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit and other sites, but any information that I could not confirm, I will not include in this video.
I want to make this video only based on the facts that we know about this case, and of course, the more that comes out, I will keep you all updated. But if there is information that you guys know about, that you've seen discussed somewhere, or that you've seen someone make in a Facebook post or something like that, and it's not included here,
That is because I just couldn't find it in a reputable source. So just keep that in mind as we go throughout this video. As a very short reminder, this case involves the death of four students attending the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho.
The four students involved in this attack are 21-year-old Kaylee Gonsalves, 21-year-old Madison Mogan, 20-year-old Ethan Chapin, and 20-year-old Zana Kernodle. To learn more about what each student was like, who they were, and more information about them as individuals, make sure to go ahead and check out the first video that I made on this case.
For the most comprehensive coverage of everything that has happened this far, make sure you watch the other two videos on this case as well as this one. But as a basic summary to remind everybody about the details of this case, the three girls all lived together, so Kaylee, Maddie, and Zana. They also had two other roommates who were not harmed during the attack.
While Ethan, he was dating Zana and had been visiting her that night and he was sleeping over. The four students each had their nights out with Zana and Ethan going to a frat party and Maddie and Kaylee going out to bars and then each of the students got home just before 2 a.m.
I do also want to mention that the two roommates who were not harmed during this, they had been out of town and they returned back home just before the four victims had gotten home. Each student had been stabbed to death multiple times and it was thought to have had happened while they were asleep. And it was an absolutely brutal and bloody scene.
I go more into the setup of the house in part two, but just as a reminder, it was said that there is a sliding glass door in the back of the house, which brought you directly to the second floor. So if you went in through the front, you would have to walk upstairs to get to the second floor. But if you went in through the back sliding glass door, then you'd be directly on the second floor.

Chapter 2: Who were the victims of the Idaho quadruple murder?
He was finally arrested on December 30th, six weeks after the murders at his parents' home in Chestnut Hill Township, Pennsylvania. We also know that per reports from NewsNation's Brian Enten that the house he was arrested from, so his parents' house, had a broken window near the door after authorities had left.
Now he is being held in prison with four charges of first-degree murder and felony burglary, and he was denied bail. Police have stated that they believe that he entered the home with the intent to kill these students. It also seemed that according to their press conference, they have ruled out a second suspect being involved, and they believe that this person acted alone.
Police Chief James Fry said, quote, We have an individual in custody who committed these horrible crimes, and I do believe that our community is safe, but we need to be vigilant.
Thank you for coming today. Last night, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, detectives arrested 28-year-old Brian Christopher Kohlberger in Albrightville, Pennsylvania. on a warrant for murder of Ethan, Zana, Madison, and Kaylee. I want to personally thank these agencies for their assistance in this case.
Kohlberger resides in Pullman, Washington, and is a graduate student at Washington State University. We'll provide as much information as we can about the extradition to Idaho and the criminal process. However, due to Idaho state law, we are limited in what information we can release today until Kohlberger has his initial appearance in Idaho court.
I want to express my appreciation to our local community. people of Idaho and those throughout our nation who provided information to help us investigate these murders has been very impressive. We've received over 19,000 tips and we've conducted over 300 interviews. These murders have shaken our community and no arrest will ever bring back these young students.
However, we do believe justice will be found through the criminal process. This was a very complex and extensive case. We developed a clear picture over time and we stand assured that the work is not done. This has just started. Since November, we have remained laser focused on pursuing every lead in our pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.
As of right now, he is still in Pennsylvania and all of the records regarding his motives and the details leading to his arrest have been sealed. It was stated that per Idaho law, once he is extradited back to Idaho and is officially served his arrest warrant, That is when we will find out more information about the case. His hearing for extradition will be taking place on January 30th.
So I wonder if that's when we're going to find out if he's going to be extradited the same day or what's going to happen. But of course, I will keep you all updated on that. They also said that Brian was on suicide watch in jail. At one point, Brian had asked one of the officers if anybody else had been arrested, to which I believe they did not give him an answer.
