And DJI has released the Osmo Mobile 8P phone gimbal. We'll answer all of your questions, of course, in the Tech Guide help desk. And it's all brought to you by Netgear, the company that keeps you connected, and Norton, the company that keeps you protected. Well, let's talk big screen experience number one, and we're talking about the Hisense XR10 flagship projector.

Now, I know there's a lot of talk about all the TVs are coming out right now, and people obviously are preferring, we're moving towards those larger screen sizes. But I don't think many people realize the efficiency or the versatility, I should say, of a projector. A projector can deliver a pretty big picture.

125.55 - 149.706 Stephen Fenech

If you have the wall of the room, you can get, in the case of the Hisense XR10, if you've got the space, you can project an image up to 300 inches. So yeah, if you've got the side of your house, you can project an image that big if you do have the space, as I said. So the XR10, I saw this at the Consumer Electronics Show.

149.726 - 176.962 Stephen Fenech

There's a little video on our story that I shot in Vegas when I saw this for the first time. Hisense have made a lot of headway in the projector market through their short throw projectors, their other portable projectors. The XR10... combines flagship features, but also the versatility of those other portable projectors as well because it's about the size of a four-slice toaster.

177.202 - 196.078 Stephen Fenech

That's the best way I can describe it, and the same shape too. So it's this little box-shaped projector, massive lens on the front, of course, liquid cooling inside as well just to keep things at the normal temperature. But it also has optical zoom and lens shift.

196.76 - 222.686 Stephen Fenech

So optical zoom, so whenever you have a projector, like I've got my own theater and my own projector in my theater here that's a Sony projector, and there is a thing called the throw distance. Now, a projector, the further back you take the projector, the bigger image you can project. So if you've got a, you want to project 150, well, I'll give you my example.

Chapter 2: What features does the Hisense XR10 flagship projector offer?

608.333 - 637.774 Stephen Fenech

They announced the first one, which was down in Melbourne. It was at the Melbourne Central, which is a flagship cinema in Melbourne. So that was the first one. That is 17 metres wide. And then a few days later, they then announced a second screen, which is an LED cinema screen, the world's largest cinema screen, as a matter of fact, in Carignac in Western Australia, in Perth.

637.754 - 661.382 Stephen Fenech

So within a matter of days, they've gone from having no Apex screens to two. And I love how they spread the announcements out too. So they got one hit with Melbourne Central and then went, you know what, we've got the world's biggest one now in Carignan. So two days later, we're writing about the other Apex cinema as well. So what is Apex? Apex is LED. It's an LED cinema screen.

661.402 - 685.245 Stephen Fenech

So basically you're watching a big TV up there. So instead of, as you'd normally expect at the cinema, it's a projection setup. So the projection booth at the back, you're watching the massive screen up the front. The picture you're watching is projected onto that screen. And that's great. LED, though, offers a few advantages. And first of all, it is much brighter.

0

685.446 - 709.569 Stephen Fenech

That's the first thing you'll notice when you see this, is that the brightness really projectors. Yes, they've got a bright light coming out of the lens, but... that has to spread itself out over 21 meters. And in the case of the Melbourne one, I think it's 17 meters, 21 meters wide. And the one in Carignac is 25 meters wide, nearly 25 meters wide.

709.589 - 741.503 Stephen Fenech

So how this is built, they're all little individual LED cells on the wall. and it is built similar to, in terms of the structure of the LED screen, it does have what they call, it is acoustically transparent. And by that I mean is that there is room like a normal screen. Next time you go to the movies, go up to the screen after the movie's finished, and you'll see the screen has tiny holes in it.

741.763 - 761.837 Stephen Fenech

So that's perforated screen. The reason for that is because the speakers are behind the screen as well. So your normal floor standing speakers, which are in my theater on the floor, In a cinema, you don't see any of them on the floor, do you? You know why? Because they're behind the screen. So the sound is coming from the screen.

761.957 - 781.303 Stephen Fenech

And then there's, of course, all the speakers up the side and the back of the theater and above the theater and all of that. And so LED, despite it being LED, there still has that transparency to allow the speakers to be installed behind the screen. Now, what are the advantages? The first one, as I've already mentioned, is the brightness.

782.065 - 806.319 Stephen Fenech

There are millions, we're talking up to 24 million pixels, six times brighter than traditional cinema projections, which I've already mentioned, 300 nits brightness versus 48 nit in a traditional cinema. So that's the first thing you're going to see. The other thing too, the other thing is the viewing angle. I'm sure you've heard of this, that term when buying a television.

806.699 - 828.073 Stephen Fenech

So for those people who don't get the plumb spot on the lounge or maybe off on the wing and on the side, the viewing angle means how good it is to see. Like if it's got 170 viewing angle means you can be sitting like beside the TV and still see it properly. That is also a massive advantage of the Apex cinemas. It's got a 160 degree viewing angle.
