Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
This podcast is recorded on Gadigal land. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. Hey chicks, I'm Sal. And I'm Al. And this is Two Broke Chicks, the show that shares life lessons and tips to help make you rich in life. And for today's life lesson episode, we are joined by a very special guest, actress and content creator, Aaliyah O'Shea.
Around the time of her 25th birthday, Aaliyah received a shock brain cancer diagnosis. And since then, she has been very bravely and generously sharing her experience on line. From advocating for your health and tips to overcome adversity, Aaliyah is a huge inspiration with so much wisdom to share. She's also funny as fuck. It's a nice little cherry on top.
Aaliyah also started her own non-profit organization, Care, which supports people navigating hair loss as a result of cancer. We are so excited to dive into this chat with Aaliyah, so let's get her on the show. Welcome to Two Bro Chicks, Aaliyah. Thank you. Happy to be here. So excited. The pleasure is all ours. We've had some very fun chats already.
But before we get into our questions, we always like to start with a life lesson of the week. Would you like to kick us off?
Yes, but I have two. Is that crazy? Oh my gosh. Come on, the more the merrier. Because one's kind of like easy and the next one's kind of like profound. Love that.

Chapter 2: What is the background story of Alea O'Shea's brain cancer diagnosis?
So we'll start with the easy one because it changed my life. If you can't open a jar, say it's like pasta sauce or like a condiment, you know those yellow gloves that you clean the house with? If you put that on, it creates some sort of grip and it comes straight off. Whoa. Yeah, crazy. Especially for the girlies who live alone because it's like, what are you going to do?
I'm not going to knock on my neighbor's door and be like, hey, can you open this jar for me?
That's so sad. You're like, I'd rather start. That's also so much safer than my tactic where I just smack the tip of it against the bench and wait for the bubble to pop.
Okay, but I think you could smack it like that.
Smack that out on the floor. Smack that jar, give it some more. Thank you.
That's so cool.
your your tips better yeah try it it's changed my life okay this one came from my therapist and it kind of like changed my life for this week she said don't chase joy chase meaning and the joy will come crazy mind blown because I was like I'm not feeling joy from the things I'm doing and like I'm constantly just trying to I'm so obsessed with that and she just said like you need to stop chasing that if you just do things that are meaningful to you it will come
And I was like, damn, girl. Wow. That's very true as well because half the time it's like if you're trying to force it, it's probably shit. Yeah. So like if you're going like, no, this will make me happy, it's like, no, it's more what's going to actually be meaningful to you.
Yeah, and like it's obviously changed for me but like I think I was just trying to do the things that used to make me feel happy and her saying that, I was like, oh, my God. And then I had to like think about what's actually meaningful to me now. And it just – Yeah, I think her saying that was like so true. So crazy. We've gone from one side of the spectrum to the other.

Chapter 3: How does Alea O'Shea advocate for herself in the healthcare system?
Just a threat. That's amazing.
Everything is threatening. But the question, was I always creative? I guess so. And humour, I just think like... I don't know, maybe growing up with brothers, but also even with my social media, I'm just like, ah, I'm not the girlie that takes things too seriously. I think I definitely tried that.
Like I posted TikTok recently being like, I'm just never going to be that curated photo dump, like fashion girl. And I think I tried to be that for a period of time because I was like, it's what everyone's doing. But I'm like, to my core, that's not me. Like I'm a little bit odd. Like I'm a little bit off.
Being creative as well just becomes so much easier once you started embracing that too.
Yeah.
Yeah. But until you do it, it's scary. Like, oh, that is so not me. Yeah, literally. Yeah, my house is too messy for that shit.
Yeah. I can't do my laundry. There's people that do it well too. And I'm like, that's cool.
That's so – I love that for them. Yeah. Because I love their content. I also love watching it.
Well, that's the thing. It's not like – there's neither one that's right or wrong. Exactly. It's just embrace what's to your core because, like, we spend so much time trying to be other things. I'm like, you actually will get what you want when you're in alignment with, like, who you are.
