Vicente Blasco Ibáñez (Valencia, 1867-Menton, Francia, 1928) fue el primer superventas español. Escribió 'Cañas y barro' en dos meses y la publicó en diciembre de 1902, en un momento de plenitud personal. Con ella terminó el ciclo de novelas valencianas.
