Benito Pérez Galdós nació en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria el 10 de mayo de 1843 y murió en Madrid el 4 de enero de 1920. Es uno de los mayores narradores de nuestra literatura. Como autor, revolucionó la narrativa española. 'El doctor Centeno' se publicó en 1883.
