Welcome back to the Unashamed Podcast. This is Friday with Hillsdale College. We're taking the Odyssey. This is brand new adventure for us. We are out on a boat together. Trying to make it home. There's a lot of things that that tried to stop us through this whole series, but we made it here today, guys. Welcome back. Good to see y'all.

she mysteriously had to leave.
She did. She vanished. She to catch a plane, I think, to go home. But that was fun. That was fun to have her here and Uh we love our Hillsdale audience and uh I I I was just in New Jersey. uh this last weekend and had s a listener come up and tell us particularly that sh how much she loved this episode and listening to us. So and of course too mama did last night too. She started watching an unshamed because watching y'all on this one and then got hooked on the regular one too. So she says her favorite podcast act. So
well i I was surprised how they turned uh Hillstill's pretty quick, man. They I mean they turned this thing around pretty quick. Obviously they I'm that I don't know if they planned to coincide this with the release of the movie. I would think the movie has been so successful they thought, well, you know what, this should be a good class for everybody to take. Um I watched the movie uh before I took the class. Did and I know you two. Al, did you get to see the movie? I
finally did this past week, knowing we were diving in. Um my I told y'all my problem was not that I was intrigued by the story and I've always loved it. Yeah, yours was the bathroom. It was a bathroom issue, yeah. I have issues? Three hours. I had to go, but John Luke told me uh John Luke told me you when they're on the boat, go then because you're not missing anything big. So I took your advice. Yeah. Uh I was only out for like a minute and a half and uh and got back and So I didn't miss anything uh major. But yeah, three hours is a long time for a prostate like mine, so Yeah to take it. So it was sh it was just one just one time. Only one time. It was good. And then Lisa made it through, but of course she about ran me over when it was over, you know, trying to get to get in there.
But it I thought I I really I thought it was great. I enjoyed it. I I guess The criticisms that I had heard about it going in, because it was a a bit polarizing for people, but it was more about casting issues and things like that. To me it felt like it was just kind of petty.

Stuff but but maybe I'm oversimplifying for people that didn't like it for whatever reason. But this things I read about it I just thought didn't really have much to do with the story itself. And the things that they were talking about to me didn't take away from the story. So did you think it was too loud? Not to be negative, but did you feel like it was a little too loud? Or just or just you. I actually took earplugs based on Zach's advice. No, I can't hear I no, I had a memory. I no I had a memory. I think I

a I actually think I have a hearing deficit, but that's why I thought it was loud. It wasn't too loud for me at all. My my question to I guess segue us into this is uh One of the things I noticed just from watching the first uh 'cause we're gonna do like a A couple of lectures per per episode. But one of the things I noticed right off the bat from both reading it and then watching the lectures was and I'm just curious if y'all know the answer to this. So Christopher Nolan who's obviously Very good at what he does. I mean, he's done a lot of big movies that are in it and cinematically beautiful. But I noticed He really downplayed to me that so much about the gods are in here and their role. But not much in the movie.
I mean there's this Athena presence throughout but it was really more like almost a ghost of Odysseus himself, like he was having these inner demons and so She was only really linked to him in the movie. So and I didn't know, but when I read the actual Odyssey, they're everywhere.
