Chapter 1: What challenges does Jesinta Franklin face in postpartum life?
A listener production.
I'm Bec Judd. And I'm Jess Roberts. And we're done with the smoke and mirrors. Fainish shares honest stories about what it takes to look amazing because we did not wake up like this.
And you should know the stuff that we chat about on this podcast is based on our personal experiences.
We're sharing it for your entertainment. It's definitely not medical advice.
And we'll always be clear with you when something is a paid endorsement.
Please always chat with your qualified healthcare team before making any decisions about your health. Hi there, it's Bec Jard. And Jess Roberts. Welcome to Vainish. Welcome. So Jess, this little Instagram post crossed our phones and we thought this is going to be good banter for Vainish. We've got to talk about this. Yes. Because there's some similarities with how we lead our own vain lives.
Exactly. Exactly. This is a bit of a laugh. So there's a lady, Tess Christian, and she didn't smile for 40 years because she was scared about getting wrinkles. Or laugh. Yeah.
Imagine being married to her. Yeah. It says in this article, she has literally trained herself to keep a neutral expression without ever laughing or smiling to prevent wrinkles, believing that reducing facial movement would help slow visible signs of aging. And look, she's 60. She looks pretty good.
She looks pretty good, but she's also got like... She looks nasty. Yeah, she looks... Unapproachable.

Chapter 2: How has Jesinta's beauty and wellness routine changed after having children?
She's got that dry sense of humour.
She's a weapon. Yeah. But this test lady, like, babe, there's anti-wrinkles and other things you can do. I know. That can get rid of those expression lines from smiling. I know. It's so funny. But hey, it got me thinking, like, what have you done, Jess, avoided doing for vanity reasons?
So as a child, I don't do it now, probably should, but as a child, I used to cross my legs and my mum and my grandmother would say, don't cross your legs, you'll get varicose veins. And they've got them. They've got varicose veins in their back. I'm doing it now. Yeah. And my vascular surgeon said, don't do it. Oh, so I'm going to uncross.
my legs now because I just thought it was like a, you know, a myth, but I did it. So intentionally at school, I never crossed my legs. So sitting on, like on the chair, I wouldn't cross my legs or sitting down on the mat, I wouldn't cross my legs. So I have a, well, you know how I sit, I squat. Yeah. Like you're doing a poo. Yeah.
I have this squatting pose because that was kind of like my thing and it was because of that. Oh, that's funny. And then now, only now is like when you're lying on the bed on your tummy and you're on your phone. or reading a book, which I'm never doing, and you're leaning on your elbows, which are called your weenus. Your weenus. Your weenus. Your little weenus.
I don't like doing that anymore because I'm scared I'm stretching the skin. And your weenus is going to be saggy. And I think it's like when I see people with their arms down and then they push it. Do you judge people's saggy weenuses?
Do you? Maybe.
Maybe.
Oh, great. Now I've got another complex. Now I'm going to be watching my weenuses. I think my weenuses have little hairs, little black hairs also coming out of them. No, your weenuses actually, you've got cute weenuses.

Chapter 3: What was Jesinta's experience like during her Miss Universe days?
Like, the gravity pulls on your face. A lot of people I know who do lots of long distance running, it can, based on, you know, your lifestyle and your genes and stuff, age you a bit. And you can get, like, looser skin, especially around your jaw from all the pounding of the pavement. Yeah. right?
Even when I was young, and this is a good thing, I'd always avoid sun on my face because I didn't want wrinkles. It turns out, hey, I don't have skin cancer on my face as well, which is great. And no wrinkles. But also a new one, the right side of my jaw and cheeks are stronger and a different shape to the left because I always eat on the right hand side of my face.
So now I banned myself from eating on my right hand side of my face and I eat on my left to try and even it up.
Oh,
Oh my God, stop. Yes, a makeup artist when I was living in Thailand actually said this to me. He said he eats on both sides evenly so that his face is more symmetrical. So when you think if you're just chewing on one side, you build up those chewing muscles and they're bigger. And my right side is bigger and lower than my left side. My left side is my good side.
I'm just trying to even my face up a bit. It's funny you should say that. One of our girlfriends, she eats like 100 pieces of chewy a week. And I'm like, why do you eat so much chewing gum? She's like, because I don't want to get gels and I don't want this to sag.
So if I chew chewing gum constantly and swap the sides of the chewing gum, then it's constantly going to like give me a refined and tight drop. Oh, you said a thing. All right, I'm going to do that. No, and I literally, and I have been thinking about doing it. Every time I go to Coles, I just forget to buy the chewing gum because it's just never on my list. So yeah, chewing gum. There you go.
Yeah. And both sides. Both sides. Okay, I'm going to do that.
Look at us fame bitches.

Chapter 4: What unexpected business venture did Jesinta and her husband start?
It's Jacinta Franklin. Now, if you've been living under a rock and you don't know who Jacinta is, she is a celebrated model. She's a former Miss Universe Australia. She has awesome taste. Taste. Her house. I was going to say her house. Well, she sold that. And now she lives on a farm. She lives on a farm now. Yeah. And we can ask her all about it.
But she had, I remember at the time, she bought this house and I think I followed that house. This house is so cool. It had like its own account. Yes. It's amazing arches and concrete and beautiful. And it was one of the most clicked on houses in Australian history. So she's got great taste, this chick. Yep.
I remember looking at her couch in one of her Instagram stories and I went and bought that couch.
Yeah.
She is an OG influencer. She comes back from, you know, way back before influencers even had a title really. She's got heaps of experience in fashion and wellness. She was the face of David Jones for a very long time. She's just had a baby. She's got three kids and I am always seeing her banging body on her Pilates reformer online as well. So we are so happy to have her on today.
Welcome to Vanish, Jacinta Franklin.
Well, thank you. I feel like this is like a longer way to date. Thank you so much for having me. And you've done a lot this year already. Had a baby. Congratulations. Had a baby, yes. So I think you probably should have put that in your like intro that a very tired Jacinta Franklin is joining us today. You look great. Bam did not sleep last night. I was like always the way.
He's been the best sleeper since the day we brought him home from hospital. Like absolutely amazing. Like finally got a unicorn baby on the third try. Yeah. And, of course, last night he was up six times. My nipples are literally about to fall out. Oh, no.
We've all been there.

Chapter 5: How does Jesinta manage sleep deprivation as a new mother?
But you know what? It doesn't end like your baby was up all night because you had something big to do today, us. Yeah, yeah. Same thing happened last week. I had to get up at like 5 a.m. in the morning. So then one of my kids pissed the bed and then jumped into mine at I think 1 a.m. after I'd only just fallen asleep anyway. Had to have a sleeping tablet. Yeah.
And then I was up from, I think I had like an hour's sleep and an interstate trip. Of all the nights, of course you have to do it before I had a really big shoot day.
Yeah, yeah. Your kids do that to you as well? All the time. I've been up all night with a 14-year-old. So she's got insomnia like me.
It's always before a shoot. Well, at least you guys can be up together.
I know. You know what? We, us three, we're all like the mum no sleep club. Yeah. Yeah. I think we thrive. Yeah. Whether they're 14 weeks or 14 years old. Yeah, yeah.
They'll find a way to ruin your day.
They will. It's all right. Hey, talk to us, very exciting, about Honey for Life.
Yeah, so Bud and I are co-owners of a honey company now, which is the pivot I think no one saw coming. Yeah. Especially for Bud after footy. But no, as you know, we relocated to Queensland after he retired. And yeah, we just kind of, like really settled into a different way of life up here, just like a much slower paced life.
And we started just spending so much more time outdoors and riding horses and, you know, obviously bought what we thought was our dream home on the Gold Coast. It was so beautiful. It was our dream home. It was our dream home. We all wanted that house.

Chapter 6: What beauty and wellness tips does Jesinta share?
And then the kids were just spending so much more time outdoors. And we're like, right, we need a hobby farm. Like, you know, life isn't chaotic enough as it is. Let's just add more chaos. So we spent about two years searching for our property. And yeah, and then it was kind of just felt like a natural progression to, yeah, to go into co-ownership. So it's a very different role.
But yeah, we're really liking it. It's really fun. So good. And then throw some three kids in there while you're at it.
A new baby, a new home, a hobby farm.
All the things. Chaos.
I love hearing about when other people's lives are as chaotic as mine. It makes me feel normal.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, my God. It's just crazy. It's madness.
Why honey?
Yeah, why honey?

Chapter 7: What regrets does Jesinta have about beauty treatments?
Yeah. I remember when you were teasing it on your socials and there was something coming and I thought, oh, I wonder what it is. And then when it was Honey, it was like, okay, I did not see that coming at all, but I'm so here for it. Yeah. It was a great launch campaign. It was. I had honey this morning.
Oh, thank you so much. Yeah, I had so many different things. Are you opening a hotel? You know, are you doing a clothing range? I think the hotel one was probably the most left to fill, but I was like, oh, that would actually be really cool. Are you doing a wellness retreat? Are you opening a zoo? Sorry, no, we had that as well. Are you opening a zoo, like a wildlife park?
I was like, mate, the zoo's in my home. Like, let's just, you know, I don't need any more animals around. So, yeah, but no, it's really fun and we're enjoying it so far. So, yeah.
So cool. Honestly, I've always wanted to have a farm. Yeah, you kind of do have a farm. I do have a farm. I mean, I usually go out and buy random animals all the time.
Yeah. Jess, like, doesn't pay her parking fines, but she'll go to Coles and come somehow find a llama and come home with it.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Never get me at a pet shop when I'm hungover. Yes. I come home with rabbits, chickens. Hermit crabs. Hermit crabs, fish. You name it. I love it. We nearly bought turtles that time.
Yes. We got talked out of that. I know.

Chapter 8: How has Jesinta's view on beauty evolved over the years?
You've already said no and you don't know my setup. And he was like, not for you two. No way. It was like they were not selling us turtles. I know, but we walked out with fish tanks.
And hermit crabs. I love that. You honestly would fit in so well with us. We are just like, we just adopt anything and everyone and anything at our place. We're like, sure, let's do it. So yeah, it's fun though.
I guess if I buy my llama and I don't want it anymore, I'll just drop it to your house.
Absolutely. We'll adjust it for you.
I love it. I love it. So let's talk about our vanished moments. So what is your typical day in your beauty and wellness look like these days?
you know what, it's so different now having a baby to what it was, say, prior to having Bam. I feel like you give up so much of yourself when you have a baby. And, you know, it's kind of this cruel thing. I felt like I was just getting back to myself, you know, before accidentally falling pregnant again. You It really felt like I was myself again. And yeah, I was just feeling really good.
I was fit. I was healthy. I was like, I had time in the morning to do all of the things. And now that I've got a baby, I'm like, I'm really lucky just to get a hot flannel and like wash it off. wash it over my face. It's like so, it feels so cruel. You're like, oh my gosh, I'm back here again. But no, I mean, skin is really, really important to me. So that's what I really focus on.
I have a really simple skincare routine because sometimes I think the more you do, the worse it is. And that's just my personal experience. I know everyone's skin is different, but for me, you know, a cleanser, I don't tone. I have never, ever toned. I only exfoliate maybe like once a week or once every two weeks. And yeah, just a really good hydrating moisturizer at night.
A mask if I can be effed. Like literally, I'm like less is like less is more. But yeah, just keep it really like really simple. And I'm not doing as much now. But yeah, I just think for my skin and obviously as well, like what you put into your body is so important. That's what I've realized. Like you can have skin that like...
