Emotional eating can mask real needs and set us up for weight gain, particularly in tender times like any part of an IVF journey. In today's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast we break it down so we can get a handle on food noise and emotional eating once and for all, by: Understanding Urges: When we feel the pull towards the pantry and it's not hunger, think of it as a signal from our brain, a cue that something else within needs attention. Urges, rather than a demand for a cookie, are an invitation to explore what our heart and soul truly need. Seeing the Brain as a Middleman: Our brain, much like a trusty yet sometimes overzealous personal assistant, throws out ideas and suggestions. The trick? Learning to choose which thoughts to act upon – not all ideas need a thumbs up! Asking the Right Questions: Learn to translate the urge into a real question, "What do you need, Sweetie?" This self-inquiry opens a window into understanding our true needs, rather than defaulting to old habits like reaching for a sugary fix. By pairing this new understanding with traditional urge work (check out Episode 52 for the juicy details!), we start to quiet the food noise, turning a once overpowering signal into a mere whisper.
