I'm here to help you prepare, plan and thrive in your move to Canada. Today I'm going to talk to you about British Columbia. On a regular basis, I will talk about a specific province or territory of Canada. I will cover its geography, climate, population and much more. This will help you make an informed decision about where to live in Canada. I'll start with British Columbia, in the west part of the country.
Where is British Columbia located and what is its geography like?

British Columbia is located on the far west coast of Canada. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Rocky Mountains to the east. The province makes up about 9.5% of Canada's total land area. Its three largest cities are Vancouver, Victoria, the provincial capital, and Surrey.
How does BC’s climate vary between the coast, interior and north?
Nature is everywhere down there, with stunning coastlines, lush forests, alpine lakes and towering mountains. When it comes to weather, BC is full of contrasts. The coast has a mild oceanic climate, while the interior is much drier with hot summers. In Vancouver, average summer temperatures range from 20 to 25 Celsius degrees, while winters hover between 0 and 7 Celsius degrees, usually with rain rather than snow. So no, you won't need a very heavy parka, high scrapers or snow tires. Seriously, who started the rumor that it snows non-stop everywhere in Canada? It's not true! However, if you settle in the interior, in cities like Kelowna or Kamloops, winters are colder, drier, and yes, snowier.

And if you move up north, to places like Fort Nelson, you will experience much harsher winters. How does minus 15 sound like? Tempting? Now, let's talk about people. According to the 2021 census, BC had approximately 5.1 million residents and nearly 30% of whom were immigrants. The largest immigrant groups are Chinese and Indian. English is the most widely spoken language, followed by Mandarin, Punjabi, and French. The median age is 43.1 years, a bit higher than the national average. And now, a word from our sponsor.
