How do we want to raise our kids? For many the answer is obvious- compassionately, loving and resilient right? Yet how do we do this in today's world and how do we do it without using punishments and rewards? Can we even do that? How do we provide our kids with emotional intelligence so that our children can move through lifes challenges in healthy ways? How do we respond to tantrums, sibling rivalry, hitting and shouting? How do we prepare our older children for the arrival of a new baby? Often the only way we know how to parent is how we ourselves were parented. But how do we move beyond historical paradigms of parenting that consisted of shaming, power over, rewards and punishment? I am beyond excited for you to hear todays episode with the incredible Lael Stone as she answers these questions and so much more. Lael Stone is an educator, TEDx speaker, author, mother, and parenting counsellor who has been working with families for over 20 years. Her work as a birth educator, post-natal trauma counsellor, and parenting educator has seen her work with thousands of families consulting about newborns all the way to the teen years. She spent over 5 yrs in secondary schools working with teens around sexuality, well-being, and relationships and her great aim is to empower parents to create connections and stronger relationships with their children. Lael's first book, co authored with Marion Rose PhD, 'Raising Resilient and Compassionate Children' has recently been released and quickly rose to a best seller on amazon and is a must read! Lael is the the co-creator of Woodline Primary School, an innovative new school based on emotional well-being and connection. She was also the co-host of The Aware Parenting Podcast - an incredible podcast with over 1.5 million downloads and is an absolute must to add to your podcast list. She is a sought-after public speaker who talks candidly about her experiences and her great passion; creating wellness in families through connection and communication. As well as sitting on a few advisory boards and consulting with organisations around emotional awareness and trauma-informed practices, she has teamed up with The Resilience Project to deliver presentations about raising resilient children all over Australia in 2022/2023. She is the mother of three big kids - who are teenagers and young adults and she is currently putting all her research into practice with them!
