Why does Ben Graham describe the Melbourne sunrise as the perfect backdrop for football?
First of all, doesn't football look great in the morning sun? It was like 1030 over there. It looks so beautiful. And I woke up this morning wanting to book flights to Australia, you know, with all those into a commercial shots and out of a commercial shots in the pregame show. I'm like, I know Australia is beautiful, but I was literally on Google Maps last night looking at all the cliffs and all the ocean shots. What an unbelievable country. That crowd was all red and they were rooting for the Niners and they love the fact I thought about this. Should Roger Goodell, if we're going to play overseas, there should be a rule that you ingratiate yourself to the country you're playing in. It's not really that cool to just fly in, play like a business trip.
San Francisco made so many fans over in Australia. I mean, listen, when Manchester United comes over to the United States. You know, fans want to watch the game and meet the stars. So I think I was sitting watching the game thinking, look at what San Francisco has done, not only for themselves, but for the league. Maybe there's a rule like, hey, guys, if we're going to send you overseas, you got to go for a few days. Because I thought that was one of the obvious things that it really paid off for the league and the Niners.
Colin Cowherd. So the Herd podcast there. Colin's my guy to keep up with the NFL and what the conversation is over in the States. That was the morning after that. nfl melbourne so friday morning over in the u.s ben graham is back with me hello to you benny
g'day jared how are you you've
come
down from the
high that we're on on friday high was high what's the glow been like for you
How did the NFL’s first game in Melbourne spark Australian fan enthusiasm?
Gerard, the feedback has been overwhelming. The love for the NFL and the event and the game has just truly been humbling. My feet only touch the ground sometimes. yesterday I'd say so it was you know my man for all week was to stay humble throughout this I was just so thrilled the way that not only the NFL embraced Melbourne but how Melbourne embraced the NFL and the fans should receive so much credit for the NFL choosing Australia and Melbourne and the MCG to host this historic event it's It's beyond words, Gerard, and the number of people that have come up to me in the last couple of days, just that they weren't really interested in the NFL. They didn't get a game. They didn't get to the game. But now they are calling themselves rusted on fans.
Where can we keep up with it? Where do we need to watch? How can we follow? I haven't got a team yet. Who should I support? Like it's promoting conversation and this collegiate approach between the NFL and its teams and business and corporate and fans. It's really been well set up by both parties, and the strategic partnerships moving forward are going to be absolutely brilliant. We should already be looking forward to the next time they come out here and play. But, Gerard, I just want to say, again, honoured to call with you the game. It was brilliant. I believe you've gone viral in the US. The love for Gerard Waitley is fever pitch. including that call that Brock Purdy right up the guts. It was absolutely brilliant, Gerard.
So well done to you as well for being such a professional that you are.
What I didn't get to – thanks, Ben. What I didn't get to share with you, I just didn't have them with me, is Crocs sent us in, 49ers Crocs and Rams Crocs. I'm not sure if you're seeing me at the moment, but they sent these for us. We could have a foot in either camp. So, yeah, the flavor of it was wild and Crocs was right in on it. So next time I see you, you can have one of each or you can, well, no, I'm not giving you the 49ers. You can have the Rams or we can have one
of
each.
Well, you know, we need to talk about this too, because, you know, I know they were here for a game and the Rams treated it like a business trip. All they really cared about preparing the entire preseason was to win this divisional matchup week one. But we need to talk about the 49ers and the number of Rams fans that have now moved to the 49ers fans.
