Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
I'm Gerard Waitley. Here's a snapshot of Thursday, May 7. Carlton Vice-Captain Jacob Wettering on the second half fade-outs afflicting the Blues.
There's probably a variety of issues.
Chapter 2: What insights does Jacob Weitering share about Carlton's performance?
For the first part of the season, it was probably a first half that was really worrying. We had the Sydney game and then obviously the game on the weekend that probably blew past us very quickly. But it's more a 10 or 15-minute patch now in games, which... clearly we're not getting done well all across the ground. So, you know, it starts with our leaders in CB. That's where the game starts.
And we're getting beat pretty convincingly in there. And then behind the ball, we're losing contests or pretty important contests, whether it's a one-on-one or, you know, a 2v2, where we're just not getting it done, whether it's air or ground. And teams are scoring really quickly on us. And Momentum shifts in games quickly, but you can't have five, six goals kicked on you in ten minutes.
You've got to try and keep that down to two or three. Probably the other factor is just the defensive intent and attitude. I think it's fair to say that it hasn't been at the level for that 10 or 15 minute patch. And then in games like Fremantle, we bring it back in the last 10 minutes.
And Wiedering, on the thought, things are reaching breaking points.
Well, we're a results-based industry. So naturally, if you continue to lose games, Gerard, I would say that there's changes would have to be made. In some way, what that looks like is not up to me. So we'll just focus on what is next. And I've mentioned it, it's boring, but Brisbane's up next.
the quality side that are doing some very good things at the moment, but it would be a hell of a way to turn things around.
Adam Simpson on the difference between leading a top team and one at the bottom.
The leadership piece around what is a good leader and where are you really tested from a coaching point of view? And the jobs that Voss and Brad Scott and McWalter have right now, they are 24-7 leadership. What's best for the club? How's everyone feeling? How do I motivate? How do I inspire? How do I deal with these heavy losses, injuries, Bevo?
They're in the trenches from a leadership point of view. And going through both ends, finishing first and last, you reflect on your leadership way more when you're at the bottom. And when you're at the top, it's a little bit different, you know, and not that Sam and Justin are living in this, oh, we've been so good for so long. It's more of a Fagan piece where has he handled success really well?

Chapter 3: What strategies can teams employ to improve their defensive game?
I'd like to see that ad. The centenary season theme song, which we just heard a bit of and we'll get into later. There was a Centenary 25 game dinner where legends cast their hands. So the legends of the Hall of Fame at that dinner cast their hands. The Centenary Ball at the MCG. There was the Centenary Art Show.
There was the first ever Hall of Fame induction and event, as we talked about before, that coincided with the season launch. The naming of the Team of the Century event. There was a gold cup for the grand final, as you spoke about with Simmo earlier. And there was the centenary documentary film. But the crowning moment was the centenary round.
