So if you want to get the perspective from an umpiring point of view, I think he's probably the best qualified. So he'll join us shortly. There's so many discussions to have with him. Just the general feeling about how the umpires are feeling at the moment.
There seems to be this gap between the umpires and the AFL. Obviously the big umpire contract drama from the weekend. about some of the interpretations of some of the rules at the moment. There's so much to talk to Shane about, so I'm looking forward to catching up with him very shortly. We are going to talk a little bit of tennis as well because Alex Diminor is out of Wimbledon, and that's, I guess, the breaking story from over nine. It's a real shame for Alex because he was beaten in straight sets by Flavio Caboli. Now, Caboli is the ninth seed, so we've got to put things into perspective. It was never going to be an easy task for Alex, but he would have gone in... expecting to win that match. And it was more the nature of how he was bundled out in the fourth round.
But the problem for Alex, which makes this even harder to stomach, I guess, is that if he got through, he would have actually met qualifier Arthur Ferry in the quarters. So he's on this amazing ride, a UK player, to get through the quarterfinals after beating Grigor Dimitrov overnight. So it would have been such a great chance for him to get through to the semifinals. And unfortunately for Alex... He didn't get to the quarterfinals, let alone the semifinals. World Cup early this morning. Spain has defeated Portugal 1-0. Another dramatic finish with Spain's goal coming in injury time. A little bit later on, we'll actually catch up with Chris Coles, who is someone that we speak to a lot on SCN, particularly on the morning program, because he is someone...
that gets a good feel for what's happening in the UK and just how the English footy fans are thinking about life at the moment. Now they're through to the quarterfinals. Hi. That's good. Look, I've been watching Alex Dimino play. I've played tennis all my life. I love it. There's a few concerns. Look, he's got the best ground strikes. He stays in the point for a long time. But he just doesn't have that killer serve. And I think he needs someone like Filippousis or someone that had a big serve, even Kourios, just to change his service style because his ball toss is terrible. And that's why he's not getting his first serves in. If he had a big serve, he'd be unbeatable. Maybe he needs to rethink who's coaching him at the moment and perhaps change it all around.
Yeah, look, it's a really difficult one, Dave, because he is number five in the world or will be number five in the world at the end of Wimbledon. So that is obviously an extremely high ranking. But at the same point, I think you're right. I mean, whether it's his serve or whether it's just generally he doesn't have the weapons of some of the ones that do win Grand Slams.
