stocks finished mixed today, and government bond yields edged lower after inflation cooled modestly in July. Consumer prices increased 3.4% year over year and 0.1% on a month-over-month basis. The Nasdaq rose about half a percent, the SP 500 roughly a quarter percent, and the Dow fell just 0.04%. Meanwhile, oil prices swung between small gains and losses. Brent crude settled just below $89 a barrel.

Shares in Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics maker, climbed over two and a half percent after it reported another strong quarter as it boosted production of servers for the global AI build out.
