Who are the hosts and what is the premise of this episode?
Barney Scout and Sandy Frodo Man are legendary names in the through hiking community. From bagging their own experiences along the great trails of North America to helping thousands of others prep and begin their journeys of a lifetime along the Pacific Crest Trail, or PCT, they're no strangers to the beauty and difficulties that the world of through hiking has to offer. So much so, the Scout decided to write a book about it. Never heard of Journeys North before? This will be the first half of a two-part episode. Today we cover the origins and bonds that Scout and Fredo share, their true hiking tales, what they've done to spread the joy of hiking, and even how Fredo knocked out her two front teeth on the PCT.

Truly, truly. These these people were so excited about this interview. I could not believe when they responded and said they wanted to do it. I I was l literally giddy, like a little girl.
It was kind of a big deal because you reach out to a lot of like really big hikers in the community and they just won't even read your message. And so they don't even know that you exist. So I was really shocked when I got a response from Barney Mann, aka Scout, author of Journeys North, one of the first through hiking books that we ever read slash listened to. So today we're talking to Scout. We're just gonna call We call y'all by your trail names. We're talking to Scout and Frodo. We're so happy to have y'all here.
And Frodo is his wife for everyone who um just so you know to give context. So Scout and Frodo, thank you so much for being on the podcast.
You bet. And I think it's better it said that I'm her husband.
I would have to agree because at this point in life I couldn't live without Marie because she's so like intertwined in my day-to-day, I would crumble and fall apart. It's true. It's true.
That's very sweet. I think you'd find a way.
Especially because she cleans my my pot whenever we go backpacking. And I really hate cleaning my pot. So that's huge.
