Except don't worry, we're not going to do every single letter because that would take three weeks and I'd have to get up and walk around. We're covering the heavy hitters. So we're starting at A and ending towards... down the bottom we're covering 12 of the most popular most used and most asked for ingredients i did a call out on my instagram and i said what ingredient do you need more information on and you told me and we're going to do 12 of the most popular and of course some product recommendations three popular excellent or products that we love for each category of course there's so many more but first we want you to understand what the ingredient actually does
Kelly McCarran 1:41
And one of the biggest takeaways that we want you to get from this episode is that skincare ingredients aren't superheroes and they work best as a team, but you also don't need all of them at the same time. So I'm going to I think we're both going to be doing a lot of analogies through this episode. But let's begin with your house that you want to renovate. But the house is actually your skin. All of the ingredients are tradies, home improvement specialists, ETC. You can't have them all coming in to help you at once because then they're stepping on each other's foot and making a real mess. You get them to come in when you need them.
Leigh Campbell 2:19
You get them to come in in a special order too because then the interior decorator comes and just makes it all
Kelly McCarran 2:23
nice and
Leigh Campbell 2:23
plush and lovely. They can't then do some plumbing. You couldn't decorate and then have your bricks laid. So with that in mind, shall we begin?
Kelly McCarran 2:32
We're going to begin with one of the most hyped ingredients at the moment, especially in the Australian market, and that is azelaic acid. So azelaic acid is your quiet overachiever. So she's the calm, organized friend who comes over and she sorts out all of your problems and cleans up all of your mess without making a huge fuss. Don't you love that analogy? Yeah, I need her in my life. So the TLDR of azelaic acid is it's naturally occurring. It's an organic compound produced naturally by yeast on healthy skin and extracted from cereal grains. So that's important to note that it does occur naturally. It's not something that's man-made in a lab, if that makes sense. But it's the good kind
Leigh Campbell 3:13
of yeast,
Kelly McCarran 3:13
not that bad kind of itchy yeast. No, it's not the itchy yeast or the beer yeast, although maybe some people would consider that a good yeast. Bread yeast is good. Yes, true. We digress. Anyway, it's anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antioxidant with mild exfoliating properties. Not everyone needs azelaic acid. I think because it is so hyped up at the moment, everyone's like, oh my goodness, azelaic acid, do I need it? If your house is organized and clean, you don't need your lovely friend to come over and clean it. It's for skin that's a bit messy, okay? It's blemish prone, it's red, congested, or it's prone to post blemish marks. What it can do is help calm things down. So it can help calm your skin down.
Kelly McCarran 3:54
It can keep pores clean, which is great because often when we're thinking about an acid, we're thinking something that's not necessarily going to help keep our skin happy and healthy.
